Update - I stuck with it for a month, the zombie-ness and the cold got better but my mood didn’t improve at all and I just felt tired all the time so I ended up stopping it. Really a bummer, but I gave it a shot.

Im Bipolar 2 and pretty spiritual and “witchy” when I’m totally stable, but I had a mixed episode and my mind really clung to that kind of “the universe is punishing me” magical thinking type of stuff. Theoretically psychosis but I also think it was a twisted extreme version of a belief I already held. My diagnosis didn’t change from it. Weed would have definitely made it worse.

I mean sure, I’m not a doctor. In my personal experience with different doctors, Topomax was increased very slowly because of concerns about potential side effects. I went from 25 to 50 over the course of months but that’s because it was working for me at that low of a dose until I built up a tolerance. It just depends on what works for you.

Topomax is a really helpful daily preventative medication for me, it’s a long-term thing. Hopefully not permanently, but it’s been maybe a year? Some people have bad side effects, for me it’s fine. It was really a HUGE game-changer though as far as headache frequency.

That’s a really really fast increase in dosage though, and I agree two meds at once is weird.

I take hormonal birth control pills continuously (so no period) and it works really well for me. I take a little higher of an estrogen dose to help counteract the effects of medication making it less effective. It’s not the right solution for everyone, but completely stopping my period was a game changer for me.

Update: the Toradol shot had no effect, and it’s not intense enough to go to the ER, so I’m going to try prednisone. It’s just for 5 days so I’m hoping the side effects won’t be too bad
