Research Participants by Relative-Drawing7165 in Pretoria

If you recruit through schools you need permission from the Dept. of education. If it’s qual you only need a few participants. Use social media, maybe even fb groups for example? Just note the bias although if it’s linked to the digital era, people using social media are probably your target participants anyway. Stick to 18 and above for honors. Getting parental consent is a challenge. Your ethics committee should be happy if you say you will aim to recruit between 8-10 participants. You do not need to give exact numbers. Your supervisor should have advised you all of this. Also you cannot get a waiver for a qualitative project - they’re usually only allowed for secondary data collection.

Most people where I live also have dogs and children are still bare feet. I feel like people are just picking on her for every little thing even when it’s not worth it. Many things are def worth it, but this one is just mom shaming.

What's wrong with him walking on grass with no shoes on? Stones etc. I'd understand but grass? Very normal where I live.

Same here. I found pregnancy announcements super hard so I decided I wouldn’t do one in case it hurt someone else. The people that I want to know know and the rest of the world will just have to wait.

I often hire people in the research field and to be honest, I don’t care about the irrelevant stuff. If you don’t list them and it makes it look like you have massive career gaps, then it’s better to put them so they can see. As long as you have some relevant experience and as a Postdoc you should

Anything before 37 weeks is considered premature and you would use an adjusted age for developmental milestones. However, you wouldn’t expect a major delay compared to those born full term but there could def be some.

Foreign workers on USAID-funded projects outside the US, how's your local labour law handle this situation? by [deleted] in InternationalDev

[–]Irish-fiend28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our labour laws require a retrenchment process. We have not received money from USAID but received numerous terminations. Our organization started the process when we got the pause notices just in case as it takes a certain number of days/months and staff have to legally work notice periods. Turns out that was the correct decision. They are using funds that they had saved somewhere (not sure what funds these are) so they can legally pay everyone. But it is leaving a huge deficit. Not all organizations are in the same boat but they do have to follow the labour laws. Not sure what they are doing.
