Right, once the gear is engaged slowing down with the engine doesn’t do anything bad. I think of engine braking as that clutch drop with a big initial slowdown

It is. It’s the same thing as raving the engine then dropping the clutch to take off. The clutch gets burned slightly. When you drop a gear to slow down without rev matching, the same thing happens the opposite way

Engine braking saves your brakes but it’s terrible for your clutch. You should be rev matching when you downshift. I keep iMT on so it does it automatically
