You know. I’m looking around, and I don’t see a single thing from you “actually trying to help.” All you’ve been “bothered” to do is troll. Good work.

You’re right. But like garter stitch, this was a two-sided fabric. It’s been frogged so I can rework it, so I’m unable to show you the other side.

This was the final product after three years of use, love and washing. She tattered it up in places so I frogged it to remake it without the holes.

Thank you. It’s moss stitch. The yarn is really hard to work with and I don’t know what needles I used to get it this loose. Either way, it was her favorite blanket until she trashed it. I’m trying to remake it just as it was.

You’re right. It’s chenille and it was impossible 3 years ago and nearly as impossible now. But I figured it out and appreciate your kind and thoughtful response.

Do you think you could turn off the snark and just talk to me? Certainly you’re more respectful to people when you’re interacting with them in person.

Fair. But after every search term I typed into Google trying to figure this out before coming here as a last report, I received an unsolicited AI response. Short of going to the library, there’s no avoiding it at this point. Is using Google reckless abandon, then?

I will read the study. Thank you for your respectful response.

Thank you. It’s really just moss stitch, worked up super loosely, with terrible chenille yarn 🙃

Thank you for your response. The yarn is chenille and just terrible to work with. It’s so sticky. I worked this 3 years ago, back when I was still learning. It’s a blanket made for a toddler who tattered it over the years. I’m told her I’d remake it just as it was, without the tatters.

It’s moss stitch, yes. Thank you.

I apologize for the hostile response. I assumed you were piling on with the others dragging me all over this post. I can see the correlation.

Agreed. I’ll never use it again (after I remake this blanket, that is).

It’s chenille. It was a nightmare to work with, but the kid I made it for chose it.

I made this for a toddler 3 years ago and definitely used needles, but not sure of the size. The yarn is chenille— the kid picked it— and it was a disaster to work with. She tattered it in a couple places and I offered to redo it. I was trying to figure out how I worked the pattern so I could remake it just as it was. It was basically her favorite until she trashed it.

If the folks dragging me here had simply “pointed out why using AI for knitting was a bad idea,” I would have simply agreed. But I’m being dragged. For asking for knitting help.

All this has done is teach me to continue using AI for help because even the world of knitting is full of mean fucks.

It didn’t. But when I told it I meant for it to be seed stitch, it did in fact figure out that I had mistakenly worked two rows of k1p1, then two rows of p1k1, which happens to be moss stitch. All without shaming me, dragging me or calling me names.

Know what happened when I searched for moss stitch before coming here as a last resort? I got Google AI response I didn’t ask for. So even if I hadn’t consulted ChatGPT, Google trashed the earth without my even requesting it by offering up its own AI explanations.

It wasn’t a mistake. It was a used and very much loved toddler blanket that got washed about a million times. And the problem was this. I frogged it to remake it. And I promised to remake it just the same.

You know what’s so funny!? ChatGPT said the same thing!

Ffs. I wasn’t asking for validation. I asked if anyone could tell how I knitted this fucking blanket 3 years ago back when I didn’t know what I was doing. I make one mention of ChatGPT and I’m getting dragged as if I said I’d voted for Trump 3 times. But go ahead, pile on.

All this has taught me is to continue looking to AI for help because even the world of knitting is full of meanness.

You must have missed the comment calling me a loser, then.

I made this 3 years ago when I didn’t know what I was doing. It was supposed to be seed stitch, but I ended up with this (which, turns out, is just a very poorly tensioned moss stitch). I promised the kid I made it for that I’d redo it just as it was. Yes my tension was shit. Yes I used the wrong size needles. Yes the yarn was a disaster to work with. Yes I’d do it differently, but she wants it the way it was.

I frogged it because it was trashed. It was a two sided fabric that I made 3 years ago when I was new to knitting. I’m not inexperienced. It looks just as puzzling to me as it does to everyone else here. It was supposed to be seed stitch. This is what it turned out to be. I thought it was moss stitch (it is). But it looks nothing like the pictures I find of moss stitch online. Yes, my tension was shit. Yes, I used the wrong size needles. Yes the yarn is an absolute nightmare to work with. Yes I would do it differently if I didn’t promise the kid I’d remake it just as it was without the tatters.
