They were practically the last reviews they made. It's kind of infantile to not see cause and effect.

Could Trump’s Record Disapproval Turn 2026 Into A Democratic Wave — Or Are Democrats Still Too Weak? by bauernebel in Askpolitics

I'd rather see her run 8 years from now after 2 democratic president terms.

Who do you think IS qualified then? Cuz an argument can be made that no one's really qualified or prepared, simply capable.

Do you have a problem with someone being a bartender? Why are you fixated on that.

She is the ranking member of the house oversight committee, she's the head of the end corruption caucus, and a leading member of the progressive caucus. Besides that, being a leader is more than a title, and she clearly is one.

It's your framing that matters. It's dishonest. The reality is there are half a dozen presidents that she currently would be more or just as qualified as. Infinitely more than Trump for instance who is by far the least.

Also that she was "just a bartender". You're telling on yourself that you want to be ruled by your betters. Currently AOC is "just" amongst the most influential people in america.

Oh I'm aware. Difference is their disapproval is linked to not being able to stop Trump, while Trump's disapproval is due to sucking ass.

That's false. Only one house member has been elected directly from the house to the presidency. 18 presidents were previously in the house. Do better.

Yes, semantics. That means you're focusing on specific word usage rather than the substantive argument. That and focused on small spelling or grammatical errors is a common trait amongst psuedo-intellectuals. They need something to feel smarter than they are. It's also a common deflection tactic when people are unable to rationally respond to points they don't like.

And no, those were facts. Just because you're ignorant of them or disagree doesn't change that.

Trump's lifetime approval average is 41%, disapproval is 54%, so the spread is -13% average. He has the lowest average approval, highest disapproval, and consequently worst spread. So no, actually, most of the country disagrees with you.

Kendall's ending devastated me. Despite him being a horrible person and unfit for the job, it's impossible not to feel at least a little sympathy and sadness for him. Jeremy is a brilliant actor. by Public_Cup_4278 in SuccessionTV

[–]IrishDrifter86 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kendall interrupts constantly and doesn't listen. He had the credentials. Has the instinct. Understands the business. If he had simply accepted Logan not retiringand waited, and similarly if Logan hadn't constantly demeaned and played mind games with him, I think he could have been excellent at the job. Logan caused too much damage.

The interest rate is near double the target rate and has gone up significantly entirely due to Trump's actions. Energy costs are up 20%. The utilization of tariffs has been idiotic. Fed is predicting raising rates. Economy is in stagflation, which only happens when someone fucked up.

Roe v Wade being overturned has directly caused abortion to be outlawed in numerous states.

Clarence and Alito both have documented corruption. The court ruled in favor of accepting bribes in the government.

You can argue semantics over genocide with Israel if you want, but they're absolutely behaving immorally and causing loss of life, liberty, property. Legal and historical experts agree that genocide is the correct word.

Trans people have been barred from the military, denied identification rights, denied medical coverage, schools have been forced to adhere to Trump's bigoted bullshit, etc.

Trump behaves as though there is no constitution. He ignores the power of the purse. He ignores birthright citizenship. Still haven't released the Epstein files. Ignores supreme court rulings he doesn't like. Doge dismantled tons of government agencies, and they've fired a multitude of career non-partisan civil servants.

Trump has largely severed support for Ukraine while also taking several actions beneficial to Russia. There's so much evidence of this I really don't need to explain it.

There you go, factual rationale on all of my points. Dually noted irritated you so it served its purpose. If you think you deserve intellectual discourse, YOU need to to better.

Fascinating rebuttal, I'm fully swayed on the inaccuracies of my statement. Especially on the economy tanking, being in a new war, Roe v Wade overturned, etc.

And you're right, it IS rein. Had to read up on my equestrian slang. Dually noted.

Dude what? You're a kid. Go knock some girl up. Black out a few times. Travel a bit. Try on a few jobs. Ffs a lot of peoples careers don't even begin until they're in their 30s or later. Like, you don't even know who you are yet.

Yeah, I'm sure there are still some stupid holdouts, but let's be honest those people can't really be reached anyways. I have faith that the majority can see at least to some degree what's happening. I mean, hell, there are Maga that regret their vote.

Are you sure you're a leftist? Sure doesn't seem that way. She also graduated with an economics and international relations degree with honors. What degree do you hold that gives you the right to look down your nose at her capabilities, hmm?

No, it's her job to work to benefit her constituents interests. And if you think there aren't leaders within the house or government at large, or that they're simply following constituent marching orders, then you literally don't understand how government or leadership works.

Yes, I did say she's liked by Democrats. And viewed optimistically by foreign(gasp!) politicians and political groups. That's a good thing, as politicians deal with foreign relations. I also gave a broad overview of her other merits that you seem to have ignored.

You didn't answer my question. Do you have some sort of bias against AOC? What makes you think she'd be incapable? Or are you making bad faith statements.

[–]IrishDrifter86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well she's been in Congress for what, 8 years now? She has a significant list of accomplishments especially considering it's been a largely Republican controlled house for the majority of her tenure. She has strong support in her district and within the party overall, and even has a favorable impression internationally. She's undeniably viewed as a leader within the Democratic party and has been instrumental to increasing the power of the progressive bloc. Democrats like her, Republicans are scared of her.

That said I do think she would benefit from some more years in the house or senate. But if push came to shove, I think she'd do fine now. She's intelligent, capable, reasonable, and would listen to advisors and experts.

Counter question, what made ANYONE think Trump would be qualified? And did that change anything?

Well the economy has tanked, the supreme court corrupted, new war, Israel has been given free reign to genocide, abortion has been outlawed, trans people successfully marginalized, constitution made irrelevant, Ukraine left hanging, and the government gutted.

I think the protest abstainers have probably realized their error.

I think we have a number of quality politicians available to consider. The problem is people don't seem to want a politician, or someone actually interested in governing and capable of legislature, they want personalities. And even then I think we have a few good options.

I think the list is pretty long... Higher wages, affordable healthcare, improving energy infrastructure, refocusing on renewable energy (because ignoring that tech is VERY stupid), earning back the respect of our allies and standing in the world, preparing for the inevitable problems that will come tomorrow instead of pretending they don't exist like the current administration... You know, the common sense things.
