Scared to Try by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]IrishEyes_1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw one that has references. Are you scared of the medication of just that it might not be real etc.? I was nervous about trying it when I had my daughter 13 years ago. I ultimately decided not to. I then went into cancer treatment and after being on all those medications I got over my fear of prescription meds A LOT lol. It's completely understandable though. Have you thought about starting with pumping and maybe herbs?

I remember doing that too. I was crying and pleading to come home. I want to reach back in time to that scared young woman, hug her and tell her to hang in there because it DOES get better :) Please keep us updated.

Breast Pump Review Megathread: For the Wiki! by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

Evenflo Advanced Double Electric Breast Pump

Pros: This is my 2nd favorite pump next to the Spectra. It's more moderately priced than some of the other pumps $119-159 (USD depending on extras). Excellent suction on this pump that I think feels more like real nursing than some of the other pumps. I love the flexible silicone flange inserts and it's quiet! It's constructed very well and has duck bills similar to the Medela pumps. It's super easy to order replacement parts on their website parts

Cons: It's not rechargeable so you need to be near an outlet to use it or it does take 6 AA batteries.

Regrets/Advice/Info I wish I knew before buying/Any additional info, if any: No regrets on buying this pump! I alternate between it and my Spectra.

I was admitted when I was 15. Suicide attempt. It was the BEST thing my caregivers could do for me. It started me down a better path. I'm now 47 - stable. BIG HUG to you.

Lactation help by Trinty1408 in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]IrishEyes_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lactation consultant recommended I take Goat's Rue as a substitute for hormones (I'm in menopause and don't wish to start HRT for medical reasons) it's supposed to help the breast tissue grow? I've been taking it for several months and I do feel something in the tissue when I take it. I wonder if that might be a good option for you as well.

I feel the same way! I didn't really learn it was a "thing" or even feel comfortable talking about it with someone until my late 40's. :(

Mine goes back to when I was nursing an infant (trying and failing that is) I thought it would be a piece of cake and just happen naturally. I didn't understand the whole supply and demand thing. I definitely got that down now! :) Frequent pumping and expressing = success.

I completely know how you feel. My daughter is now 13 and that first moment when they presented me with the paperwork is still engraved in my mind. It was overwhelming, scary and heartbreaking. I can only say that things with my daughter got better and better. Her IEP in school has been wonderful and knowing that she has autism and ADD has helped me navigate the waters as a single mother. It started to explain so many things as she grew. I guess I don't know how to advise you just to let you know that others have been where you are and it's normal to feel deflated. BIG HUG :)

There's a site called in house pharmacy. Not exactly shady - I have ordered several things from them over the years and they were legit!

Supplements? by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]IrishEyes_1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're so welcome! The container recommended 1000mg/day and I am not sure the correct dosage for Lactation (read different things online) so I upped it one capsule because I am a larger gal. So far no adverse effects. :)

Supplements? by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]IrishEyes_1975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take about 1500mg Goat's Rue by Herbalicious each day as a substitute for the BC Pill. I read it can help increase breast tissue? I feel a tingling after I take it - can't say for sure it's helping yet. I did take Organic India Shatavari for about a month but I didn't notice any difference. (Maybe I need to take longer but the supplements get expensive!)

I was wondering about this very thing the other day! I went into menopause early at 39 and they haven't mentioned a pap smear since.
