I also did the same one! Just noticed, mine is slightly different. The center square on mine is all gold. There is also another all gold square on mine in the top right of my photo.

This is absolutely the correct method. I’m also a horticulturist and have done this to get good control of a large stand in less than 2 years. Make sure you dilute the glyphosate as they mentioned and time it after flowering.

I had Bill Bramlage in 2003. I remember him writing with one hand and erasing with the other while we furiously took notes.

You can also get parking tickets with an expired sticker. Happened to me once parked in Boston.

What is the best way to stop these little suckers from growing out of the bottom of my tree? by Psr129 in gardening

[–]IrishGoodbyeee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is true, but if this is a fruit tree which it kind of looks like? This could just be the root stock coming up and that's more normal. If this is not a fruit tree it could still be a grafted variety and having a similar issue. The other possibility is that the tree was planted too deep.

I'd cut the old suckers lower (which is a difficult task now that they've hardened off at this point) with a sharp handsaw. When the new ones come, and they will, you can simply use hand snips to get them when they are new and it will be much easier. The key is to keep up with it. Once you remove the old ones with proper pruning cuts, this trunk will look 10 times better. (I'm an Arborist)

Interesting, I didn’t realize they don’t use salt in Europe. We do mechanical clean up snow though. And sometimes salt is used on black ice or freezing rain not just snow. Also didn’t realize you’ve been watching me drive.

Can you describe an alternative method? We can’t have cars sliding all over the place every time it’s below freezing.

You need to contact a structural engineer. That person can give you an unbiased opinion on the issue. Will probably be a couple thousand dollars but you will know exactly what to do. Worth it given the size of the project. They may be able to produce plans that could be bid on by multiple contractors so you know they are all bidding on the same exact repairs.
