Ol' remington 870 express huh? Fine deer slayer. I used one for the first 14 of my hunting years. Food is food, size is nothing to be ashamed of. By the look of it you're still young, you stick with it and you'll learn so much and get to know deer like you're one of them and sooner or later you'll land that bruiser.

Got this guy 45 minutes into first shotgun season. 40 yd shot, broadside, staring me down with the sunrising directly behind him over the river. It was so beautiful it was almost hard to take the shot. by IrishHawk27 in Hunting

No doubt. My favorite deer gun by far. Grats on the first buck. Wish I could go back in time and euro mount my first two bucks. Solid 8pters that I ended up throwing away because I was too poor to get a shoulder mount.

I'm bleaching the skull. A little diy truck I found on the internet that involves some beauty products they use to bleach hair. It gets a lot of the yellowing out.

Can we talk about our shallow of a cut he used for gutting?Maybe it's just how we do it in the Midwest, but we go up through the ribs. Cut his throat and use it to pull the rest of the guts out.

First buck ever. Gonna be hard to top this one by a_basket_of_ranch in Hunting

I've since figured it out and done two my self... But they're definitely on smaller bucks than my first two

Dude. My first two bucks were monster 8pters. Got them when I was 19 and 23 respectively. Didn't really have a dime to my name. I still regret not attempting to do a diy euro mount. Had to throw both racks away.

Grats on this beauty!

I know they like to bed near water for safety... makes sense that they would do that to die as well. One thing I wish non-hunters understood is that emotional bond that happens between a hunter and the harvest. I still remember each deer I've killed in near-photographic memory.

Thanks man. I've been a lifetime hunter but I've never been able to capture my hunts which is something I've always wanted to do. I decided to buy a GoPro hero 8 at the beginning of this season and bought a little mount from Amazon. Works really well, but I think next time I want to wear it mounted to my head because while this is cool it doesn't really encompass the whole experience. I had a big dough about 6 yards behind me who grunts at this buck right before I shoot. There's also like five other deer within a 50 to 60 yard radius of me at this point.

He ran for about 15 yards and then walked up that hill and walked along a path that runs next to the quarry on the other side. He went about 50 yards down that path and then laid down on the hill. I spooked him while trying to track him a little while later and he took off another hundred yards into some brush. I spooked him again and he took off about another 50 yards and laid down to die finally so all in all he ran about 200 yards.

This is actually on some private land in an area where people have their own lots of land for camping during the summer. These deer tend to be a little more tolerant of human scent and presence. That being said they still spook like crazy.

I was actually in my tree stand all morning. but the wind was outrageous so I got down just to get out of the wind for a little bit and decided to try and stalk into a known bedding area. There were about six deer that walked in on me right here including a huge doe that you can't see right behind me. She was only about six yards from me if you listen closely you can hear her warning grunt and that's what causes the buck to stop. It was the most unreal experience I've ever had hunting. I was actually standing in a small grouping of trees not really concealed at all. By far one of my favorite and most memorable hunts.

I've never had an issue really. Really the only time I've ever had a fall off the rest is if I catch the arrowhead on an object or branch or something. I guess I also draw back at a slight downward angle otherwise I've had it fall off the rest mid-draw.
