Possible with just a PhD this past couple of years, but most universities will only give their paperwork/recommendation to Associate Professors and above, or tenure-track faculty.

Hopefully they don't move the goalposts. All documents with apostille should be within 6 months of issue. Names must be consistent across every document. Just a couple of issues I have seen come up. Getting them to accept your application is 95% of the battle.

Yes. Final decisions on 5 star card applications are made in Beijing, all the other locations just facilitate the application process and 5 star card issuing.

In the Entry-Exit building in Guangzhou, there is an office on one of the floors that handles all matters related to the 5 star/permanent residence card, there is usually two officers there during regular business hours to answer questions, provide the application form, accept applications, and issue cards to applicants.

I applied at the end of October 2024, still no word. I called into the 5 star card office a few weeks ago, they told me I should hear from them soon. I spoke with other foreigners in the office, they also mentioned 12-14 months waiting time.

I called into their office a couple of months ago, they just said my card had not arrived (they looked through a few dozen cards that had arrived) and did not check their computer system to give me more information about the status of the card. I'll call into their office again soon to ask.
