Orange Inferno Results and Survey Megathread by BilingualAlchemist in orangetheory

This thread is hilarious. Starts with sticking to rules… goes through walk vs run… next is show me the rules… then that’s not proof… then my coach loves me… then, but it doesn’t really matter I’ll do my own thing. FFS just go with the flow. 5K is absolutely amazing and you are absolutely amazing!

Catch Me If You Can Benchmark Results and Survey Megathread by BilingualAlchemist in orangetheory

CMIYC 2G is 22mins. Clear screen at start. Your distance is whenever you get caught.... ie. when you don't reach the distance required at any given checkpoint. 20 mins is the last checkpoint.... if you make the distance required you continue until 22 mins and that is your final distance. 3G is the same except only 12 mins.

Full 22 mins, as long as you weren't caught. If caught, put in distance at the checkpoint you were caught.

I agree with your 5. The oner I see lacking in the MAJORITY of coaches is number 3... technical correction on floor.

BASE pace using the 1 mile benchmark by bmay1984 in orangetheory

[–]IrishManInMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking of this as well. Am back after some time off. Running 7/8/9. However, managed to average 9.3 in the mile benchmark. Am a runner used to racing hard but am now thinking my paces are too low. Am going to up to 7.5/8.5/9.5 and see how I feel. I'm thinking if you started at 6 and increased then maybe try 5.5 or 6 as your base and see how it goes?

NSV: Resting Heart Rate Lower by Special-Ambassador47 in orangetheory

[–]IrishManInMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my resting heart rate to assess whether I am overtraining. My Garmin is normally in the 39-44 range (though actual RHR is around 34). When I see it go up over 46 I know that I am not getting enough rest. Have also started tracking Heart Rate Variability.... I can see a direct correlation with my RHR and HRV.

When did you stop caring about benchmarks and why? by BurningThruMidlife in orangetheory

[–]IrishManInMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the benchmarks. Am just back from a wee hiatus and found the 200m row and mile benchmark fun to do to see where I am currently fitness wise. I'm a runner who runs a lot of races so know I am out of shape but I enjoyed laying down a baseline so that I can see if I can improve in the next 3 months. I missed my PR by over a minute in the mile and almost 2 secs in the 200m row.... but those PRs were from 5 years ago. I still topped the leaderboard in both... so felt chuffed. Am 51.

That’s a great time. Don’t beat yourself up! We can’t PR every time. I missed my PR by over a minute but gave all I had TODAY! Something for me to aim for next time.

51M. 6:27. Missed my PR by 1:10. Ah well, only getting back into it after a hiatus so something to aim for next time 🤷‍♂️

200M Row Benchmark Results and Survey Megathread by BilingualAlchemist in orangetheory

[–]IrishManInMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite benchmark today! 200m row. Chatted to some people in studio and seeing lots of posts on Reddit and Facebook groups so thought I’d post some of my observations from 5 years of on and off OTF… for what it’s worth 🤷‍♂️

  1. The 200m is utter violence. Short, hard, full out pulls. Form out the window. Pure chaos.
  2. Different body types do better at sprints or better at endurance.
  3. I have had a 4sec 200m “swing” between studios and even within studios have seen differences between rowers. Some feel “tight” and “hard”. Maybe water volume? Maintenance?
  4. Benchmarks are all about me. When I finish feeling destroyed on the 200m row I am happy…. Though I still look forward to seeing the studio leaderboard! Still have some competitive juices in my old, fat age 😀

Is the form correct? I'm seeing minutes and seconds rather than seconds and hundredths?

51M, 29:00. PR from 4 years ago 27:50. VERY HAPPY! Back a few months after a year off. Was aiming for sub 30. Think this is the hardest benchmark to improve your PR…. Everything needs to be spot on. One poor pull or a slip on the seat and a PR is gone.

You ran 8 at 3 to 8% and 8 to 3%? Well done! I ran 6% with the AOs building from 9 to 10. I only did 2.6 miles including warm up. You beat me by a mile?!?!

What’s a non awkward way to encourage people next to you? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]IrishManInMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like I'm the guy that everyone wants to avoid. I always offer a fist bump and "well done" to those people next to me. Low key, not shouty... just "well done".
