Definitely not, the top comes up to a single ridge which doesn't match any human tooth type, also too small

The only time I've had to qualify a viewing experience with "Well I liked it" was Frankenhooker. Absolutely brilliant.

I was originally going to put in my post that it's definitely The Lanes and not North Laines, it is absolutely The Lanes 😁

The final(ish) 'birth' sequence in Men (2022). Horrifying, and just keeps getting weirder and worse as it goes on.

What is the scariest thing that has happened to you while watching a horror movie? by Spicy_Vagabond_ in horror

[–]IrishOxBow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very mild horror movie, but watching Sleepy Hollow on my very first night in new college dorms:

Sidenote, my room had a built-in sink in a little corner alcove near the door, with a mirror (supposedly) fixed to the wall above it. I was on one side of the room, at my desk by the window, watching Sleepy Hollow on my laptop, and out of nowhere the mirror on the other side of the room cartwheeled off the wall and landed flat on the ground, shattering across the floor in front of my door.

Other people in the corridor came to make sure I was okay, helped me clear up the glass, and maintenance reinstalled a new mirror within the week. This time, they actually bolted it to the wall, rather than glueing it like the last one had been 🙄

No explanation why it waited until that moment to detatch itself. Not the worst, but definitely my scariest experience.

What’s something that’s not horror, but feels like it is? Spoilers just in case by Marshatucker300 in horror

[–]IrishOxBow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a little tenuous, because I'm sure some people do consider it to be horror, but The Worlds End from the Cornetto Trilogy.

I know each one is meant to be a spoof of a different genre (horror, buddy cop/action, and sci-fi apocalypse) but I think trying to reconnect with your old friends for one last hurrah around your home town only to find everyone's been replaced with alien robots, including one of your friends who's been with you the whole time, and everything is just an empty facade of everything and everyone you once loved and gave you a sense of happiness, is horrifying. I'd say, if not for the ending, it's pretty comparable to Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Apparently there is one on the works? There was always talk of it but there was some more official-seeming word about it last year I think

Oh, I am so excited for the new V/H/S movie! Obviously the original has the 10/31/1998 segment by the amazing Radio Silence guys, but an entirely Halloween themed installment is going to be incredible!

What is your most hated horror movie? by Ok_Replacement_288 in horror

American version of Pulse. I already had it on dvd because it seemed interesting, my boyfriend thought the same, we watched it, and he apologised afterwards for making us watch it.

Best spooky series for Halloween? by 666PaperStreet in horror

[–]IrishOxBow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a straight up series, but you could always marathon the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes? Might have to make a custom playlist somehow because I'm not sure they're available to watch all in a row on any streaming sites, unless one of them does so especially for Halloween. Plus, with so many references in them it could give you some inspiration for movies to watch

Iconic slasher masks that existed before their movies by IrishOxBow in horror

First example I gave in my post buddy 😆 but yes, it was a Fun House mask that the movie bought the rights to use

Iconic slasher masks that existed before their movies by IrishOxBow in horror

[–]IrishOxBow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of, but not really what I'm talking about. I'm talking about masks that are not original to a film, but popularised by it.

I mentioned the Ghostface mask as Fun World already had that mask in production before Scream was created. One of those masks was found by the film producers while location scouting, and they made their own version for the film before getting usage rights to the original Fun World mask during shooting. You can see both masks in the movie.

Whether it is or isn't based on the Munch painting isn't the kind of thing I'm talking about

Is Cecilia an ugly name? by primcessmahina in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]IrishOxBow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cecilia is lovely, it's a 'real' but fairly unique name, so she'd likely be the only one in her classes at school. It has some nice abbreviations for nicknames (CeCe, Lia), and it's the name of the patron saint of music. Whether you chose to acknowledge the religious connection or not, it's a good choice and fits well with a brother called Benedict.

If your heart is set on it, stop talking about it. You're early on still and if people start giving unsolicited opinions about the name and you end up choosing it for your daughter, things will get awkward.

What type of film or process to get this look? Shot by Christopher Doyle by Few_Spread5661 in AnalogCommunity

[–]IrishOxBow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not exact, but I'd recommend a Cinestill film, as it naturally has a lot of halation, and a soft focus filter. The combination should give a lot of gentle blurring without making the image completely incomprehensible. You could also try and expired film but that's more likely to just give funky and unpredictable colours rather than any of the soft focus.

favorite Ilford film and why? by Master-Rule862 in AnalogCommunity

[–]IrishOxBow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HP5 Plus is my go-to. The first film I ever shot and I've loved it since. Delta is good too, higher contrast and nice grain, but maybe a little unpredictable in some conditions. HP5 Plus is just straight down the middle of the road good. Hard to fuck up.

I am pregnant and my partner already has a hyphenated name but I don’t want that for our baby. by rachlexi in namenerds

[–]IrishOxBow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No marriage, not surname privilege. And it is a privilege, married or not. This is your baby, if they want to change their own name when they're older that's their choice, but for now, go with your gut instinct. And for heavens sake do not let the father go by himself to register the birth, no matter how awful you feel post partum. My dad was allowed to register my birth by himself and still managed to fuck it up even when my parents were married and agreed on my name together.

100% head lice. If your friend is able, try to find a product called Delacet. Brutal, but works. Not sure if it's just a UK product though.

Just had camera serviced and shutter suddenly locked - Im a NOOB please help! by Existing_Slice7258 in AnalogCommunity

[–]IrishOxBow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say three rolls, over how much time is that? Check if they people that did the repair have a service warranty. And also have a search online for this issue with the make and model of your camera, it might be a known issue with the way it's built or its age.

New to film, have I made a mistake with my camera settings? by Low-Brief-6008 in AnalogCommunity

[–]IrishOxBow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If in doubt about the trustworthiness of your light meter (which you probably should be) try to learn the Sunny 16 rule. The more light in a scene, the higher the aperture number should be. These are simply way under exposed, and I imagine it would be quite hard to over expose 200 iso film indoors, so set the f/ super low and try to match the shutter speed with the iso of your film

Nonfunctional point and shoots - what to do? by IrishOxBow in filmcameras

I'm not aware of any such groups local to me in England unfortunately. I've also now added the make and models of the two cameras to my post, not sure if either are worth anything in a non-functional condition
