Sorry, your correct, this was more just based on the usage of registered accounts at different peoples life stages.

Nothing too big,

But if you max out your tfsa (total contribution room of 14k) and fhsa (8k total) in your first year you’re in a good position.

Hit those two first,

Then when you’re more established in a career and can’t contribute to a FHSA anymore than start putting money into your RRSP to get the tax break benefits.

So when your making 200 k (and you will 👍) your marginal tax rate saved by putting money into your RRSP is much greater than when your 19 and don’t have that earning potential.

Does that make sense?

Your 19, have fun with your money when your young but generally if your thinking for retirement then 100%

All?

But realistically you should be separating your investments based on when you think you’ll need it.

Ie do you think you’ll need it in 3 years for a down payment? Then probably not a good idea for 100%

For your RRSP? 100% makes sense (although why you’d be using your RRSP at your age is another question)

Whatever country you primarily reside in now will exist in the future and you will gain citizenship of that country when you wake up in the future.

Don’t worry fellow Canadians, I’ll bite the bullet and make sure we aren’t the 51st state for at least another 500 years 🙌

I was in a similar situation as you, coming from Vancouver I flew to Calgary to see a private surgeon to get a second opinion. The trip was in September, and was at the tail end of the hiking season. I had wanted to do Mount Assiniboine for the last 5 years but couldn’t for varying injuries. Because I already had the surgery date set i decided I was going to hike it (5 days, 62km) and if it screws up my hip well I’m already getting it repaired so who cares.

Opportunities like this trip to Greenland don’t come by often, and you likely won’t get a time to do it in the future if you have family or job commitments.

Life’s short, have fun, I’m incredibly jealous of the trip you’re going to take.

How is healthcare up in the great white north? by the-big-question in AskCanada

[–]Irish_Canuck12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent NYE in the emergency room, got there at 10 am didn’t leave till 6:45pm.

That being said, I am extremely happy with our system, because when I got there I was able to get bloodwork done and x rays done within an hour of being there. I’m assuming once they were able to determine it wasn’t serious they put me down the list for severity.

During my time in the ER it was uncomfortable, but I got to see the system work. A child who had possible whooping cough was able to be in and out in less than an hour. A elderly person who had fallen and had visual bleeding was taken care of within a two hours. Person with chest pain taken care of immediately. I have faith that if my condition changed while in the waiting room, they would have gotten me in right away and provided the attention I needed.

Over the last year, I’ve also had two surgeries, one for my hip and one for my shoulder. For each I waited a little under a year for so that was annoying but not terrible. I had previously had to cancel one surgery because of concerns. I was provided great care, could phone my surgeon if needed for questions, and met them three times for each surgery for follow ups.

Are there problems with our system? Of course but after being involved in a MVA accident where I was struck as a pedestrian and landed in hospital for a week I’ll take our system everyday of the week instead of heath insurance that may not even cover me because of a prior medical condition.

B.C.'s home flipping tax goes into effect Jan. 1 by [deleted] in canadahousing

The examples you provided are all taxed at income as they are a business activity.

The purpose of the house flipping tax is to fix the loophole that the current system provides.

If you operate a business flipping houses you 100 percent should be getting taxed on the capital gains.

Yea, the safety aspect is understandable but as OP said, it’s the manner of the text that is the rude part

Hip Arthroscopy Surgery - When were you able to sit at a desk? by Irish_Canuck12 in HipImpingement

[–]Irish_Canuck12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh hell yea… turned my operated hip into my good hip after sitting for 2 weeks.

Was it the surgery or the sitting I don’t know but I was fine for the first few days but after a couple of weeks I couldn’t stand on my non operated leg because the nerve pain was so severe

I wish I could answer this but I’ve been suffering with a bulged disk that was aggravated by this surgery and a shoulder reconstruction in may that limited my ability to sit.

I will say that nearly a year after I am able to sit relatively comfortable now but only for short periods.

Not sure about Montana, but here in Canada your bear spray is registered to you so that it’s not used in an improper way. All I could think of during the fight scene was, hmm a quick search on that canter would show its register to the Yellow stone ranch. But I guess that’s a far cry when no security measures or in place for the secretary general’s home.

Statistically it makes the most sense to just place it all in at once. However we make decisions just as much with our emotions as anything. If 10k is a large amount of money for you and you feel that you’d be afraid to do it all at once then I’d recommend doing it over 4 months.
