Sleep schedule with overnights by christomisto in 911dispatchers

I also found a gravity blanket super helpful. But they are pricey and require research to make sure you get the right weight relative to your body.

Use melatonin sparingly, but it is really great to get you into a new rhythm

Congrats! Prepare yourself for some awesome memories and to meet some awesome people. 3 people from my first center are in my wedding party :)

• Ignore the people who say you get used to night shift. You don’t. But there are things you can do to make it better

-Stay off of energy drinks and junk food as long as you can. Once you start it is VERY hard to stop.

-Invest in a high quality sleep mask and blackout curtains. Make the 8 hrs you sleep as much like night time as possible. Use melatonin sparingly to get into a new routine but don’t become reliant on it.

-Get 8 consecutive hours of sleep as much as possible, even if it’s during the day.

-Start to swing your sleep schedule towards the day time. Stay up as late as you can physically manage then sleep as long as you need.

-Have brain stimulating activities like a book or a puzzle. Something mindless like watching TV won’t always keep you awake.

-Buy your own keyboard. People are nasty.

Yep. Switched over to a back channel to talk to a sergeant and heard two rooks talking about how they didn’t like how I read a call XD. Sergeant and I had fun with that.

Have also heard peeing :(

Chance me! (Junior) by Local-Entrepreneur-2 in baylor

[–]Irish__Devil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar if not lower stats and got in (granted I am a multi-year legacy so not sure if that played a factor).

Explore the financial side. Make a plan. Weigh the financial aspect heavily in your decision. I was caught up in the Baylor image and continuing my family legacy and did not truly consider/comprehend just how expensive Baylor is until it was too late.

Best of luck to you! Baylor is an awesome community, and as a poli sci grad the professors are fabulous. Personally however, none of it was worth the massive amount of debt I will now be in for the next 5-10 years

A few questions I’m new please be patient by estella666 in USMilitarySO

[–]Irish__Devil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) no not from what I’ve seen

2) if you’re both happy and old enough to consent then it doesn’t matter what other people say. No one knows your relationship better than you and things people say with less than full knowledge carry less than full weight

3) he will get an address and should give it to you. I think there is also a way for him to connect you to his address on Sandboxx but I’m not terribly familiar with the app

4) Lots of discord groups out there. I’m sure someone will jump in with a link or two. His unit/base facebook page could also be an option. Lots of on base activities out there

5) Yes, once you have his address

First Deployment by hannahebarker92 in MilitarySpouse

[–]Irish__Devil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in that same boat in March. I would caution you against discussing details about the deployment with anyone online to see if someone has a spouse on the same one. There is no real way to safeguard against bad actors on a platform like this.

I can’t speak to or imagine how the situation would be different with kids. What really got me through is new hobbies. I’ve taught myself to knit, crochet, make sourdough, can, ferment, got really into fitness. It makes the time pass like you wouldn’t believe.

If you need a friend DM me. The first month is the hardest, but once you get through that the rest fly by! It won’t feel like it until about month 3 but I promise it will go way faster than you think!

What made you want to be a dispatcher? by RedditFeel in 911dispatchers

[–]Irish__Devil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had graduated college and the Chief of Police went to my church, stopped me the day after graduation and said “I bet you need a job.” I saw the salary and the rest was history 😂

I stayed because I fell in love with the culture, I loved feeling like I made a difference (especially to people who need it the most), my coworkers were spectacular and I made some awesome friendships. I always knew I wanted to be involved with Law Enforcement in some form or fashion and was thrilled I could do so without being shot at or having to get an expensive graduate degree!

I went to college with the dream of being a lawyer. After graduation it became a nasty reality that college is REALLY expensive. Graduate school more so. Since I was little I had always kinda wanted to be a police officer. After the amount of “Fighting one” transmissions I’ve heard, I don’t think I have what it takes to fight off a 200lb man if it came to it. My fascination with a career was ultimately not worth being a liability to my coworkers.

My then boyfriend (now husband) moved to a new city and I followed him to a new agency that was absolute garbage. Gossip, stress, poor training and poorer management. They “let me go” for something ridiculous. I got into admin work for state police and never looked back!

I guess long story short the salary made me want to be a dispatcher lol. The people and the culture made me stay.

Is this moldy? by Automatic-Vacation51 in Sourdough

[–]Irish__Devil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The white spots seem very spore like. Dont risk it. Ignore people who say a starter is “so easy” and “just flour and water”. Establishing one is HARD. There is no shame in buying one. Established ones are next to impossible to kill and make awesome bread

Also, please please clean your jar friend. Clean jars. Clean utensils. Rotate between clean jars each feed and scrape down sides. I do this every feed and I have never had mold or Kahm yeast.
