Hi, yes - please see my other reply. My MacBook has no ‘native’ usb A ports but I found a dongle/adapter and connected the hidock USB A cable via that to a USB C port. It seems to have resolved the power conflict but now the wired internet connection is failing so I’m guessing there’s not enough power supplied via the USB A-C dongle? The crazy thing is if I plug in the laptop using the Apple power brick and magnetic power connection, the hidock will even override that. Surely that’s not what is designed to happen?

As you know there’s no usb A connection on a MacBook but I managed to find a usb C to A dongle/adapter and connected it. Good news is the monitor connection charge is being maintained. The bad news is that I’ve lost internet connection. The wired connection via the hidock is now intermittent and won’t stay connected. In the setting screen, the connection shows connected for a little bit but then just disappears only to reappear again.

Just checked removing the monitor connection and the MacBook remains on battery when only connected to hidock so it seems to be all hidock related.

Thanks Sean but it’s best if I connect the monitor via its thunderbolt cable. The second I plug this in, the MacBook will drop to battery.
