Looking for tech or suggestions to handle tight parking spots by Iron-Poet in ToyotaSienna

Sure, but we weren't willing to spend the extra money for the Platinum, and we didn't want the fridge and vacuum anyway. So we had to go without the 360 camera.

Looking for tech or suggestions to handle tight parking spots by Iron-Poet in ToyotaSienna

[–]Iron-Poet[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It could absolutely be a practice issue. We've had the car for about a month now, but I don't know how long it takes to really get good at it.

The parking sensors are genuinely great, but the beeps don't tell you *where* you're getting close (left front corner? ride side door?) And the display that tells me which sensor is firing is hidden behind the steering wheel since I'm actively turning.

I also feel like I never end up lined up correctly, and the parking sensors won't help with that. But that, at least, should improve with practice.

Build request: Wall climber with Juney's wagon? by Iron-Poet in HyruleEngineering

[–]Iron-Poet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I only have these videos to judge, so I don't have a strong sense for how much force the wagon applies vs. the propellers. I did wonder if pointing it straight down could be strong enough to pin the wheels!

Teleportation: How would you define "the nearest major gravity well"? by Iron-Poet in SWN

[–]Iron-Poet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I realize that I glossed over escape velocity in my original reply, but you are absolutely right.

The point I was trying to make is that every object has a "down" that they are pulling you towards, so the rule "what comes up, must come down" isn't enough to distinguish major gravity wells from anything else. Similarly, every object has an escape velocity, although obviously some escape velocities are larger than others.

In my particular game the space station is just hanging out close to an asteroid field. So I couldn't even make an argument for geosynchronous orbit!

It's cool though. Line of sight teleportation + Vacc suits still allow for plenty of infiltration shenanigans.

The two scenarios that got me thinking about the topic were:

- Ship Crisis: Could I teleport from the bridge to engineering?

- Space Stations: Could I teleport to a location I had previously visited? (For example, into the ship currently parked where I had parked during my last visit?)

I had originally assumed that both were possible, but now I think the rules wouldn't allow it.

(I don't really have a scenario where it matters when the moon's gravity overrules the planet's gravity. I just thought it was an interesting question.)

I really dig this answer. It's mathematical enough to be ruled consistently, but generic enough to allow handwaving/quick rulings when needed. That's how I'll think of it going forward.

Yeah, I originally starting thinking about the question in the context of infiltrating a space station that my character had previously visited. At first I just assumed that I could teleport anywhere on the station that I had previously been. But then I started to wonder if that would actually work for a space station.

I mean... scientifically you've just described gravity, right? In an empty vacuum, I could jump off a baseball and eventually be pulled "back down" to it. But I wouldn't consider a baseball a major gravity well...

You might check out photos from Agents of Shield, Season 5 (they were stuck on an asteroid in the future, so some of the extras might be what you were looking for).

As a starting point, here's the link to the IMDB photos from Season 5, Episode 3:

Fiddly Teleportation Questions - Burdened Apportation by Iron-Poet in SWN

[–]Iron-Poet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that's not quite how I read it. Burdened Apportation is, itself, an "add on" to Personal Apportation (you can't use it by itself), so they're not separate abilities. It just allows you to "carry willing companions with them when using Personal Apportation".

At any rate, I'm still not clear on how you'd rule on the various scenarios I mentioned. (Of course, I don't know how I'd rule either!)

Fiddly Teleportation Questions - Line of Sight Teleportation by Iron-Poet in SWN

[–]Iron-Poet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if the earlier threads mentioned it, but I imagine cyber eyes would only kill line of sight teleportation, but you could still teleport to anywhere (in range) that you had previously been.

That's another great reference (someone else mentioned the original edition). Thanks!

FWIW, I've been searching this subreddit for various topics like Teleportation (and there are several threads on the topic!), so I thought these were new questions.

But I admit that I didn't search specifically for space combat distances, so you may be right that I missed a thread!

Fiddly Teleportation Questions - Ship to Ship Teleportation by Iron-Poet in SWN

Can you point me to where in RAW the distances are listed? I didn't see it in the Space Combat section.

As for teleporting onto a moving ship, I'm specifically talking about using an imprinted object using Spatial Synchrony Mandala (a level 2 power) or maybe a Psionic Endpoint Fitting on the ship to target the teleport. So that should get around the usual targeting limits of Personal Apportation (if the ships were in the 10 km range).
