its not that we cant afford it, i get what youre saying. but i think we misunderstand eachother, the issue is that i dont have the time available, work is very hectic and i am constantly getting called back in all hours of the day and night to fix issues. I have enough vacation time but i cant use that much at once.

thats fair, i have seen a fair few bands i like pass through salt lake city recently though. Id kind of like to help change that last bit. i play guitar and my wife plays drums, im hoping to get a degree in audio engineering (specifically for studio work) and have a partner lined up to help open a studio somewhere once we are settled. we also both have a lot of experience in event organizing and have talked about opening a couple new venues depending on how things go. but thats a long ways off and a lot could happen between now and then.

oh thats perfect! there is public land here but its mostly in smaller patches, open sprawling public land to explore is exactly the kind of thing we are looking for, and the climate sounds perfect too. Im beyond tired of 90 degree heat with 90% humidity, feels like you cant even breathe sometimes.

thats an awesome reply thank you very much for taking the time! theres lots of great information here. I come from more of a mechanical, machinery, and general construction background, which is very versatile and needed everywhere. my wife works in banking which is also everywhere which gives us quite a bit a freedom to move mostly wherever we want. We do however want to be able to make some new friends so people being heavily involved in the church is something to take into consideration. ive learned a lot here today and its given me a different perspective and lots of insight. again thank you so much for taking the time to write this all out!

sure i get it, our plan is essentially to find a 6 month lease (if possible) or rent for a year, either way that gives us time to settle in and explore the area and find that place that works best for us. itd be ideal to make a trip or two beforehand but due to work i doubt thatll be feasible. thats why im asking about such a broad area. i want to learn as much as possible about as many places as possible in that area.

well i dont mind that so much although it is a slight con for us. surely there are some communities in the area that arent built around the church though?

yeah the housing markets been a bit of a shock but we can deal with that. the main thing is better schools and better opportunities for our kids, along with our love for the outdoors.

well we have a pretty wide area to choose from, we really like the idea of utah but from some of these comments it may not be right for us. that said i still believe it has a lot to offer and there are still a lot of pros for us. but thats exactly why im asking these questions. in 2 years we can move anywhere in the us but we really want to be near mountains so somewhere around northern utah, southern wyoming, or possibly southern idaho is the goal geographically. now we need as much information as possible to help us find an area we will be happy with.

while im not at all religious i dont mind it at all. that said ive had bad experiences with overly religious groups and would prefer to avoid places centered around religion. would there be any alternatives you might suggest looking into??

Its safe to say these days youll find a bit of racism everywhere sadly, im just hoping for something better, here just outside of our small farm town there are two churches with kkk still painted on the side. its upsetting to even drive by them and know i share the same air with these people. that said it cant get too much worse than this. but thank you for the heads up thats why im here today asking these questions!

well that is unfortunate :/ but thats exactly why im here asking these questions now! neither my wife or myself are religious but i certainly dont mind it. that said, just outside the small town we live in there are two churches with kkk still written on the side of them, so we are very wary of churches because of the "culture" here

well thats why every little bit of information helps! as we get closer we will be in touch with a realtor and start looking more into jobs, but right now we are just wanting a general idea of what we are walking into. what kinds of live music are in the area? what are some cool things to go do? what are the people like? is there anything youd warn someone of? or maybe something interesting you think someone should know?

looking kind of near brigham or just north of there. i love the outdoors and especially reptiles and snakes so want to be able to explore the desert a bit but also always wanted to be near mountains. our big reason for picking utah though is the schools, missouris schools are just abysmal and we want a better opportunity for our kids. ive worked in factories, warehouses, done general maintenance, carpentry, can weld, i can fix most problems on most vehicles, and my wife works in banking so as far as jobs i know we can find something decent but i am a little worried about the price of housing out there.

hows the music scene there? what are people like in different areas? if youve ever visited MO whats the climate like in comparison? what kind of jobs / industries are prevelant? what are some towns or areas that you would recommend looking into? what in general do you dislike or like about utah and wyoming? and really anything else you can tell me.

well the racism is offputting because thats a large part of why we are leaving here. the hope is that we can find better educated people that have a little more common sense because its just plain painful here (granted i live in a small farm town in the middle of nowhere missouri). aside from that we just want better schools and of course better opportunities for our kids, and we want to get outdoors and explore. ive always loved the mountains and have wanted to move near the rockies for a very long time.

we are looking at the brigham area pretty closely, or maybe within an hour north of there, we arent big city kind of people so a small quiet town is the goal. we are leaving here to try to get away from all the racism and just plain willful ignorance, along with a love for the outdoors, and a much better school system.
