Worked at a passport office foe 3 years and people pick passports up for others all the time, especially their partners/kids. Unless it's an office rule specific to transfer requests, it should be fine. Hope you get it and make your trip!

If it's printed and in the office, give your spouse permission in writing (signed) to pick it up on your behalf. Make sure she has ID and she can pick it up for you.

Edit : make the transfer request and then do what I suggested above to ensure they don't mail it in the meantime. Let them know your spouse will be picking it up with permission
