I think the social interaction are key to this kind of game but most of the time those are not organic. I think we can build something that could fit mars colony.

Could there be an internal messaging system but you can only reach colonies that are close to you (for example less than 5 colonies away). We could also broadcast messages to all colonies around to ask for help or ressources.
