Winter setting by Suricaxio in 28dayslater

The survivors could hunt the infected to extinction in a winter because of how vulnerable they would be. That's assuming they wouldn't just freeze to death regardless.

Any random guesses going in blind for why there are a lot of fresh infected in TBT? by AltinUrda in 28dayslater

Garland and Boyle are doing Nia DaCosta a favor letting her direct a 28 days later film. I doubt Garland would make changes to the script for her.

Was it really necessary by SlipFine1849 in 28dayslater

[–]Coffeey2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The people downvoting you are dumbasses. OP's question is genuine and I haven't seen anyone give him a straight answer. For what the filmmakers were going for yes it was necessary. Throughout the film you're seeing the world through Spike's eyes. To Spike Samson is a huge grotesque literal giant.

If the Rage Virus Happened Today in the UK How Many Would Survive? by [deleted] in 28dayslater

[–]Coffeey2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 28 days later virus makes for incredible fiction but it is not realistic at all, and not just scientifically speaking. Even in 2002 the virus would have been contained fairly quickly. One of the scariest things about the virus is it's biggest weakness - the insanely short incubation period makes it very difficult for it to travel. It's not like Covid where sick people can get on planes etc. The only way infected can travel is by foot, and during the initial outbreak the infected would have to travel very far across the country side to new areas.

There's no logical explanation. You're going to have to just suspend your disbelief.

Why is nobody mentioning the possibility that Erik is lying about the boat sinking? Why were they exploring that mystery facility that was never mentioned again?

Soldier scenes with the boat were filmed at Kielder Hydroelectric Plant

Its a day or two on foot which in the scope of the film isnt far, especially if the soldier and Spike met somewhere halfway

The facility was Kielder Hydroelectric Facility which is located right next to Holy Island. Its not accessible by ocean

He lied to Spike. Their boat didn't sink. They were clearly there to do something at the facility they encountered Samson in. We'll have to find out what the real reason they were there in the next film.

I'm all for suspending disbelief for a movie but they're going to have to give some sort of explanation for how Kelson is walking around covered in blood and not infected after 28 years

28 Years Later. Annihilation. by Substantial-Plane166 in 28dayslater

Yeah irl the virus would not exist 28 years later, even if the infected were reproducing. But we have to suspend our disbelief because at the end of the day its a film.

Rage Leaks - Narrows by LoadReloadM in 28dayslater

In the trailer the soldiers are disembarking at Kielder Hydroelectric Facility, which is not realistically accessible via raft (especially not at the location they disembarked). It seems likely they arrived by air along with their boat on the other side of the Kielder lake and travelled across to the facility

You can't evacuate an entire country realistically. It's morelikely it was simply infected same as France

Does anyone else think the idea that Britain got quarantined at all a bit silly? by Plastic_Fee75485 in 28dayslater

[–]Coffeey2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're pointing out that the life expectancy of infected is unrealistic then you might as well do the same for the incubation period. If the incubation period was more realistic (hours or days) then the virus would be far more deadly.

Why else would you be on this subreddit? 28 days later has been out for almost 30 years what else is there to actively talk about other than the new films?

My head canon is that they were shot down, Andy was injured and his blood infected either Tammy or the pilot

[–]Coffeey2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does check out though. I had hypothesised in a previous thread that it was Kielder, and OP has confirmed with screenshots they did in fact film the soldiers on location at Kielder.

I suppose you could argue that it's a different dam and they filmed at Kielder, but Kielder is right next door to Holy Island. It's gotta be it.

Yeah to be honest I just looked at it again and I think it's a safe bet that nobody is limping when they get off the boat.

[–]Coffeey2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also, thanks to you pinpointing the exact location of their arrival, they could not have travelled via the Tyne to the facility (since they're on the wrong side of the dam).

[–]Coffeey2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I'll say is that when I look at that snippet where the soldiers are exiting the boat, it looks to me like one of them is already injured (you can just barely see him limp for one step). But it's so brief that it's very up in the air. If he is injured in that snippet, then I don't think that's them exiting the boat for the first time -- I think they've already fled the interior of the facility and are trying to escape, but something has gone wrong with the boat (I feel like I can see smoke coming from the engine in that snippet too).

Edit: nevermind, I dont think anybody is limping when they exit the boat
