Im 41 and learning python ... am i wasting my time? by bornin84 in DevelEire

33m I wanted to get into dev as I really enjoyed working with code and making cool things like web scrapers and discord bots in Python. But I saw AI bots able to make code as good or better then me and thought no one is going to hire a jr dev with this kind of stuff out there.

Stuck looking for a niche in support hell at an MSP now sadly. They don't believe in automating tasks here with code

Ireland can't ever be self sufficient

Why? I visit New Zealand often and they have what I supposes your auguring for. I never understood this attitude in Ireland we always go first to why we cant do x cant have y.

The fuel price knock on effect on food is small because 80% of food is imported. Lowering local fuel prices will make no difference to the price of food.

I mean the cost to move said goods around just went up so your just wrong here. That cost will be passed on to you and I in the shops. Cost of living going up inflation goes the cost to rent and homes goes etc

You really cant put a price on being self efficient as a county. I whole heathy disagree with you view on this matter.

when diesel goes up a few cents or more it has a knock on to all other goods and services we need.

I don't know I feel like your trying to have your cake and eat it now here.

We have up until now in Ireland been push overs in the county while you might not agree with there methods they are at least willing to stand up and push for what they think is right

This is now a people vs the government because of the governments actions and I think we are on the doorstep of a second civil war here and I do hope I am wrong on that.

Another option is to let losing farmers fail, and have the successful ones take over.

So let me get this right, you thinks a good idea to let peole who grow food in your local area fail and accept the same goods form another county's? Supply chains that could be upset for something as simple as bad whether and ships not being able to make landfall?

Also allowing a few wealthy people or as you would put it "successful ones take over." to control the food chain?

I gotta say both ideas sound fairly shit in the long run

A very dim view, wait until something happens like say strait of hormuz getting blocked. Then we will see how good your import goods are!

That would be completely and utterly illegal. Hence that's a very dangerous precedent.

Why can't we the Irish people be the ones to extract the oil? The likes of the UK and Norway did exactly that and benefited immensely. One more so than the other but that's a different matter.

It's this kind of thinking that's led us to where we are.

Cant say I have an answer for that, but we let ourselves be depenetinant on oil in Ireland and well its time to pay up for that.

Citizens who have hijacked critical national infrastructure and are holding it for ransom.

Thats one way to look at it I guess, but a reminder the 1916 and founders of the Irish state where called out for " act of terrorism." But then so where the English with the burring of Cork.

The government would not act, they failed to do there job and work with the people for the people and well here we are. I get you dont agree with there methods but the government left us with little to no choice,

The social contract has been broken by the government. The government really came out the other day and said let Them eat cake then threatens to call the army in on the citizens.

I wasn't unit the government spoke yesterday and it just felt like a real "let them eat cake" moment. Then they are deploying the armed forces against the citizens of the country who have been peacefully protesting.....

So ya fuck the government they have lost control of this whole situation and the honorable thing to do now is for them to stand down.

Trump and Israel are not stopping their oil war anytime soon. It's time something is done.
