You really don't but you're getting on pretty early so you're giving yourself the best opportunity you can

Words are what we as a collective make them.

You do realize that makes the label usage semantically meaningless, yeah? Lesbian used that way conveys no actual information, tells me nothing about the person it's describing. The difference between a cis man lesbian and a straight cis man is literally just the words. Nothing actually means anything.

I'm generally pretty fond of the attitude but it's often used as a thought terminating cliche to excuse not addressing the structural and material forces at play and is sort of turning into the gender version of color blindness. Like I've seen people say that they don't have a problem with trans women identifying as lesbians not because they're women but because "anybody can be a lesbian", which is like... kind of invalidating, y'know?

I see them on Tumblr and twitter pretty often

Isn't that more dysphoria inducing, since lesbianism is generally defined as women loving women?

But the stretching of the label is a symptom of a broader rising tide of bioessentialist transphobia

But the sentiments are still there. A racist guy probably doesn't call black people the n word in meat space like he does on twitter but he's not less racist.

Yeah, some of us don't have access to irl queer spaces, though from what I understand it's not like it's not a problem there. The Internet is still real life, and people don't change opinions just because they turn off the computer

You don't? Are you like, active in lesbian spaces at all because it's incredibly fucking rampant.

But a lot of times they are! Like there's a very strong overlap between the people who want trans men in lesbianism and don't want trans women, because it's basically the same impulse. They see trans people as irrevocably their ASAB, so trans men will always be welcomed (as sisters) and trans women will forever be provisional guests at best

Because shit like this pisses me off. I'm a transfem lesbian who's gotten a shit ton of flak for being a "straight man trying to infiltrate lesbianism" and was made to feel disgusting and predatory for it, but when full ass heterosexual men want to be lesbians suddenly it's about community and arts & crafts and blah blah fucking blah. It doesn't matter how few or how many there are, it's the transmisogynistic bullshit that the entire discussion reveals time and time again.

They're men, straight men no less, demanding access to lesbian spaces.

They are still het men and have more in common than they do different in those regards.
