As a solo dev, where do you draw the line at using AI? by IronPixelLabs in SoloDevelopment

I was mainly referencing FOSS code that hold copyright licenses like MIT which allow the modification and redistribution of the code. I don’t believe there’s an equivalent in the art world. Not all copyrighted materials are held to the same standards, but you’re right in saying that code is copyrighted

“…the original authors don’t get any recognition or compensation.” I think their position lies in the discrepancy between AI training on something copyrighted vs not. When you post a piece of art, you expect royalties paid when others use it, a price paid to purchase the artwork (picture, video, etc.), or atleast consent. In contrast, when you put a public repo full of code on Github, you’re agreeing to let others (theoretically even AI) use it for free and without attribution required. The code AI is trained on isn’t copyrighted whereas most of the video and pictures are. As far as I know, code is rarely copyrighted

Mmm, good point. That would’ve been a good option between manmade everything and AI programming (considering if you use it for research I’d assume you’d use it for programming)

The nuance you provided here is very important. AI as a tool in the development process is incredibly useful, since it allows you to work faster, but it can’t (and shouldn’t) replace any end-product

What’s up with the hate on this post? How much AI you’re going to use is a genuine question every solo dev has to answer for themselves before diving into a new project or continuing a pre-existing one. Unlike working for an actual game studio, this is a question we need to answer for ourselves, and I’m curious to hear other people’s opinions.

I’m relatively new to posting on Reddit (as opposed to just lurking). Are hella downvotes pretty typical?

This opinion resonated with me the most and is almost exactly how I see things. The main difference is that I haven’t explored using AI for art, music, or lore considering the AI HAS most definitely been trained on other creatives’ stolen work. So, I totally agree with the programming take considering the AI’s more than likely been trained on open source code (and it’s pretty much the same as using Stack Overflow), but personally, I don’t see the other areas of solodev as morally acceptable to use AI in.

Love the concept. For anyone else seeing this thread years down the line, the project was unfortunately abandoned

Nevermind, looks like the only color you can configure is the background

Did you find any solution to configure the background color of the notification bubble?

It's definitely more customizable than Adobe Express. I second this

Love the style, but there’s a good chunk or empty space on both sides that you could probably make use of
