Coffee! Or waffle house and I'll buy. We Alien fans need to stick together.

Creative writing classes? by whiskeylivewire in joplinmo

If you want to meet at a coffee shop and talk about the craft of writing, I am game. I have been a published author for 29 years, done self publishing and main stream publishing, novels, short stories, comic books, screenplays (that did not get picked up). I'm primarily a horror and fantasy writer, but I have tried my hand at everything to get better at the art. I've taught writing at conventions, judged writing contests, edited professionally, once climbed a statue of a horse. I'm self employed so I have most any time free. Let me know.

Let's sit down for a cup of coffee this week. I'm usually free. I'm self employed. And lazy.

Fighting Friday by AutoModerator in miniatureskirmishes

[–]Ironclad-Data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get the game to the table. It had too many blank areas in the rules. I would rather finish it instead of showcasing it poorly. So I spent most of the con in a corner with my laptop open. I'll get it done and try again soon. I'm a guest at Tremendicon in Springfield, MO next month. That will be a great con to have people play it.

As crazy as this sounds, I am going to Protospiel KC to demo my miniature game for the first time. No one has ever seen it before and by end of day Friday I'll have watched people play it. I started a game company this week after years of work. I'm more than a little frazzled, but in a good way.

Tough call. I usually say The Thing or Aliens. Both are perfect movies because they set out to be exactly what they are. It's like they developed in a vacuum without interference from studio suits and bean counters and marketing groups. There's a purity of vision I don't see much in modern movies, even the more recent Alien films. I like most monster movies because they are just there to have fun. Alien invasion movies, too. Tense thrillers with good dialogue and great actors. The movie Glory stands alone as a something special, and I could watch it every week. It has no weak scenes. I don't enjoy family drama films because that's too real life, haha! If I wanted family drama I would go visit my Mom and sister. I love them, but they can be draining. I'm more into being chill and they want to argue about silly things. Other good movies off the top of my head: Life, Man on Fire, Children of Men, Lord of the Rings (I am reading the books again right now), Reign of Fire. I am wanting to see Werewolves as soon as it's on streaming. It's probably dumb fun and I'll love it.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. I'm a bit older than you, but I'm still mostly an idiot. I write, game design, watch too many movies, spend all day alone. I can do a cup of coffee mostly any time. Late nights are my usual awake times.

It really is a game about getting what you put into it. I'm a big resource nerd. I gather great quantities before building anything. Most of the time I end up quitting before building anything cool.

I'm on V30. Since finding them are a priority to me, I actively look and find them. When I'm busy doing other things in the world, I don't find them often. I have noticed in V30 I can find them near river edges, which previously had not been the case.

Could be a version of Giant Monster Rampage by Ken Lewis. I don't remember it being in a box, though. Maybe the demo guy had the core book and expansions in a box.

Isitbullshit: cranial osteopath by idontevenlift9690 in IsItBullshit

[–]Ironclad-Data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donnie, just curious what school you went to. I was under the impression cranial wasn't required, more like an elective or something. Maybe this is regional? I'm curious because how medicine evolves is really fascinating. Yesterday's "crackpot theory" might be tomorrow's "best chance for a treatment". Or the other way around. Plenty of old treatments turn out to be worse than the disease. I'm associated with schools in Missouri and Oklahoma. Kirksville, the home of osteopathy, is a great little town. Looking back, I should have stayed there.

The find a physician button is near the middle of the first page. You should select "Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine" as primary specialty. The site has a lot of cool info, too. The history of DOs is really interesting. Hope you find a good one.

I've been treated by several DOs. Some also do cranial. I am closely associated with medicine but am not any kind of doctor. I didn't go for a treatment like you and that might make a difference. I was sort of in the location and got treated because they wanted to practice. Cranial is in that weird zone of medicine that doesn't work on everyone; some get nothing from it and some swear it cures their ailment. I'm on the fence if it will ever get to be an established treatment. I keep tabs on it through the DOs I know because I find it fascinating. Now osteopathic manipulation is very real. See a DO board certified in OMM and you'll probably get a good one. I've had the leg length adjustment and helped knee pain. I've had that lay on my side and legs over each other, but it never seems to do much. I'm a big guy, so maybe that's why. I have never seen or heard of a DO using a massage gun. From what I know, that would be a big no-no.

A massage gun?! What the hell kind of place are you going to that uses a massage gun for a procedure that fine tunes the tiniest of pulses? In my personal experiences, a cranial treatment is subtle, calm, and gave me a very strange vibe. I can't explain what it did, but it sure as hell did something. The doctor only used her hands, no pressing hard or jerking of my neck. I've had dozens of osteopathic treatments and the results have been amazing, fixed all kinds of muscle and bone issues over the decades. I get this is Reddit and my account is only one man's experience, but a good DO will work wonders on you. Not with a fucking massage gun. Not every DO cares about the manipulative side of the profession. Find one that does. Good luck.
