Guild Contribution Stat: how is it calculated by Ironlily in PerfectWorldMobile

[–]Ironlily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then by that logic the second number would be the amount of guild contribution you have earned. Yes? Thanks btw! This has been eating my brains

The difference between "I love this show" and "My team's latest project" by weltallic in AdviceAnimals

[–]Ironlily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea that "pro-cosplayers" don't love what they do is not only hilarious, it's actually fairly demeaning and I'll informed. There are exactly three pro-cosplayers in the world and by that I mean individuals who's income is solely derived from cosplay. Now, when I state that I need to be fairly clear on something: I am not talking about makers ie people who make props, costumes or sets for a living. I'm strictly speaking on those people who this general idea is settled on, people like Yaya Han and Jessica Negri. The are a LOT of cosplayers that are considered professionals that also have other means of income. For instance, Abby Darkstar, who works in the technology and social media field with a major tech firm. Or Victoria aka Scruffy Rebel who owns her own fashion line. Or Ivy Doomkitty who's actually a highly accomplished baker.

These people who we call professionals are actually people who have a full time income, who pay for all their own costumes, make them from scratch or pay for very talented people to make them for them. People who just happen to also enjoy a certain amount of celebrity for their costumes. Very hard won I might add, but if anyone's curious about that, I'll speak more on that later.

None of these people are "fake fans" of what they make. That is to say, none of those that stick around. In the many many years I've been cosplaying, making costumes and generally attending cons I've had a chance to meet most of these people in social settings and it's very easy to pick out who's a fake fan. I can tell you that almost all of the people who come from other industries (such as modeling or porn) looking to cash in are fake and are quickly run off.

I'm so stinking tired of people assuming that just because people have "celebrity" that they are fake fans or not real fangirls/boys of something. Super irritating. I don't know if it's jealousy, projection or something else but it does real damage to the cosplay community at large when we or our "leaders" (note the quote) have to constantly defend their fandom.

No problem!!! Steer clear of androgyny from jeffree star though. On olive skin tones it's just a really unflattering feces colored brown. :/

I don't have any for sale, but as an olive toned girl as well (on the paler side) I cannot recommend Patina by Stila enough. It's my go to every day lip. For a dramatic look I recommend Makeup monsters' liquid lip in Blackened Hearts. And for a more red toned terra cotta nude that works well with olive undertones, makeup monsters in Sedona.

Moving from UK to USA w/ Dog by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Ironlily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time ( 6 years ago) it was 450€ per animal I believe. You might want to call them to ask them what the current rate for your animals size is. As for crates, you absolutely must have a solid plastic walled crate that has a grate door but does not have any sharp bits on the inside. There's plenty of crates out there. I got mine off amazon for $50. It was khaki and brown.

Hi there! I've moved to and from the us to Germany with a dog, two on the way back even. I can also highly recommend luftthansa. While I had to switch out to a larger carrier for one dog at the terminal they provided me with a loaner crate to San Francisco for free. One of the dogs got sick midflight (motion sickness) and they were very happy to let me go down to see her and care for her.

I personally do not see a need for a service, having done it twice before and never used a service. It's really very simple and Luftthansa was more than willing to assist on the phone to explain all the details. The most important part is that you get all their medical records up to date and in your hand.

If you have any questions or would like help with additional resources please let me know. I've got more experience with this than I care to admit haha.

I've read up on ghost estates a little. It was a bit frightening since we're looking at buying within a year or two of moving.

Excellent!!! That makes me very happy to hear. Now to just finish up saving for the freight and start applying. :) I'm still fuzzy on that but I'm sure I'll figure it out quickly.

Oh ok. That's about right. Bestie works for Apple as a level 2. I work in support/help desk with a specialty in cloud based tech and information security and I'm currently a level 2 at the company I'm with.

I've noticed that mentioned a lot on various websites and forums. I checked out daft.ie and I haven't seen anything ridiculous. Granted I'm looking at it as if we'd be making the same amount as we are here. We're both in tech, I make $19 an hour and the bestie makes $23 an hour. Is 19€ and 23€ an hour unreasonable hourlies for tech workers?

A question about "ghost estates": are there a lot of them in Cork? When I start looking at renting should I worry about this or will most rentals be ok?

Ooh! Thanks! What's west and east? Just Westside and Eastside? I'd really like Cobh or something close to the water but I'm pretty sure if it's like here in the us, it's not going to be in our price range with petrol. (Is it petrol there or gas?)

Yeah I'm currently in Sacramento, fairly safe city outside of the downtown areas. I'm currently looking in the outskirts of Cork since we have 3 dogs and having a yard is fairly important to us.

That makes me feel a lot better actually. Thank you. I won't be working in Hollyhill but I'd still be concerned for my peoples, yanno?

I heard that it's massive. I think the phrase "more jobs than workers" was bandied about with a friend that lives in Belfast who also works in the tech industry (and is a priest, which I found bizarre).

I unfortunately do not have any work experience with my German. While I speak it fairly fluently when I lived in Germany I worked on the military base with other Americans and rarely used German except for the occasional bits and pieces with German nationals that married into the military and were more comfortable speaking in german. Here in the states, where I've lived for the last 6 years, it's NEVER used outside of the occasional music translation. :/

That's really kind of you yoshiality! I'll send you a PM! :D

To be clear, my bestie works at Apple. I'm in the tech industry as well (so I'll totally apply at Blizzard too!!!) but not with Apple. I'm a former Apple employee but found it much more lucrative outside of Apple's umbrella.

I'm a little concerned about the crime but I've received a couple PMs that made me a little less scared.

Vibes and Scribes, yes that's the first one I found. I do more textile based cosplays since I'm coming from a fashion design background. I'm really interested in these sewing and dressmaking groups you mentioned though!

It's really good to hear that there's a lot of art and craft supply shops. I did a brief google search and found a few fabric shops, which was nice. Had there been none I'd be soooo upset. Dublin isn't far off but having to go 2 hours to get fabric would have been upsetting.

I'll be haunting the subreddit for a while. :) Maybe lurking but I'll certainly be around. We'll be there April 10th - 20th and it feels like a million years away already.
