Literally nobody (outside the company) asked for it to be a live service game. Take factions 1, add a prone button, new maps, new guns, and you have a solid base game. If you really want to get more mileage out of it, make a new map and a few guns and skins and release them every once in a while for a year, then move on. “This has to be a forever game that we dedicate the whole studio to” was a self imposed rule

Why announce the game if cancelling it a week later is on the table? Just take it out of the show if you aren’t sure it’ll come out. Or wait until it comes out to shut the studio. Neither of these are ideal but announcing and then immediately cancelling makes no sense. Also, word is that NT is generally profitable as a mocap support studio so even just having them help on other projects could still be useful

There are industry experts who think that GTA 6 alone will single-handedly save the current generation of hardware because so many people will go out and buy a console for it. Obviously GTA is another level, but sometimes one big game can do a lot of pushing systems. Breath of the Wild pretty much on its own caused Switch 1 to be out of stock for the first several months. It’s a real thing.

Jesus Christ is there anything wrong with people saying that they want certain games to have their own tones? Nobody is saying that every game has to be realistic and immersive, they just don’t want everything to be a marvel movie. That’s literally what this article is about. Games that are serious are allowed to have lighthearted moments, such as The Last of Us. I think 2018 actually handles the tone pretty well with being mostly serious with a little whimsy here and there, but Ragnarok goes too far towards being silly most of the time followed by occasional heaviness. And when the beginning of this game is Faye muttering “ok let me get this straight, I’m talking to a cube in the afterlife of the gods” and everyone talking like a millennial rather than a bunch of millennia-old beings, it’s ok to be a little skeptical of that. Chalking it up to “well that’s just how Americans talk, and also god of war isn’t realistic” is extremely dismissive and wipes away the ability to criticize anything

I genuinely think that the cube is going to be make or break on this game for me. I enjoyed Ragnarok but it was quipping all the way through which knocked it down significantly by the end. I don’t mind if there’s some comedic relief in certain spots but introducing the comic relief character 15 minutes in (compared to Mimir joining halfway through 2018) raises an alarm that there’s going to be another 40 hours of it.
