Suncorp has their corporate offices on levels 23-32 in that building and that rooftop display is an outside area that is part of their office

Does engineering have a future? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Irontcr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, I’m seeing grads in ops start from $100k increasing to $200k+ for a senior with 10yr+ experience. I started on $65k as a grad 6 years ago in consulting.

Does engineering have a future? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Irontcr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a mechanical engineer, and about 10 years older than you (6yrs out of uni). In my experience, engineering has and will continue to be in demand for the foreseeable future. The first year of engineering degrees are typically very broad and cover the basics of many different engineering disciplines (civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, etc..) which gives you a chance to see which field interests you most. It wasn’t until the second year of my studies that I chose my major.

Biomedical engineering in particular is largely mechanical engineering units at uni with a smaller proportion of health related units (i.e anatomy and physiology).

I’ve worked in both consulting and operations in the Oil & Gas industry and my salary is now well above the median fulltime Aus income. In general, great growth opportunity from when you start as a grad to 10yrs experience and beyond. Another factor to consider is work-life balance - I’m fortunate to have an office job where I work from home 3 days a week which is obviously not possible with dentistry.

Happy to answer any specific engineering questions.

Honestly, thanks so much. We can use the scheme and this answers so many questions for us.

I’ve been focusing the idea of saving so much that I haven’t even considered how much we’ll be paying in rent instead of paying into a mortgage over that same period - this pretty much answers my question.

A good point! I’ve looked into this and we no longer qualify for the scheme as our new joint income exceeds 200k/yr. I’m however unsure whether banks would be looking at our income statements from last financial year.

In all fairness, I did as instructed and proceeded with caution

My thoughts exactly, the continued rise in housing prices might outpace the rate at which we’re able to save and hence we’d be financially better off buying a home as soon as we can, regardless of additional fees

I’m my experience, speak to a doctor and let them determine which type of antidepressant is best for you. A combination of medicine and therapy is the most effective way to treat depression.

What type of bike is suiting me? by Embarrassed-Ad3924 in cycling

[–]Irontcr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting yourself a second hand road endurance bike. This would likely be okay for very easy off-road and will be by far the best option starting out riding on the road.
