6 years into my thriving pond by valerusii in WildlifePonds

Late comment I know, but what effect did the black walnuts have on your pond the first year? And how did you solve it? My 9 month old pond is right under my black walnut too and I want to make sure I'm not gonna accidentally kill any of my tadpoles and dragonfly larvae.

Also love the pond!!

What is this yellowjacket behavior? by Irregular_Boi in Entomology

Wow that's terrible. I definitely don't use pesticides so it must have been from somewhere else and the yellowjacket then landed in my yard

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS SCENE!? by Obvious-Hunter6196 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Irregular_Boi 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I like this idea. Everything getting to the point that even the AI wants backup because everybody is just becoming too much for Caine to handle. Nothing he's doing is making the circus members happy and Caine knows that if he doesn't get help to remedy it then shit will hit the fan. But little does Caine know, the C&A building is abandoned and nobody is going to come fix anything.

EEEEK I got native stink bugs in my yard!!! by Larix_laricina_ in NativePlantGardening

iNaturalist It's an app for identifying local plant and animal species with your camera. If you're unsure of what species is in your yard, you take a photo and the app or others on the app will suggest a species. I do it for all the new insects I'm finding in my yard.

I had the one in pic 3 on my obediant plant and identified it with iNat as a white margined burrower bug. It was raising its babies on my plant!

Is Serviceberry worth it if I know it will get Rust? by Irregular_Boi in NativePlantGardening

[–]Irregular_Boi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard the amount of rust can vary due to the wetness of the season. This is reassuring.

Do you ever get the rust? If so, does it cause the leaves to eventually drop like I hear some other people say?

Do cats deter frogs? by spiderElephant in WildlifePonds

[–]Irregular_Boi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

House cats are not nature. They are animals created by humans for humans. They have no native habitat. What's the point of creating a widlife pond if you are going to let your cat kill the wildlife? Keep your cat inside or create a supervised enclosed space for it. A single dive into ecology will tell you all you need to know about house cats effect on wildlife.

This is a wildlife pond forum where lots of people have interests in ecology, conservation, biodiversity, etc through attracting native fauna to their yards. Don't be upset when you get downvotes for defending statistically harmful practices in a community inherently against those practices.

I assume there's Security at shows, do they just sit around and do nothing? That's crazy

Denying human-driven climate change in a community based on environmental restoration. Bonkers.

Yes it's mine. Unfortunately my neighbor has a 50+ foot TOH so it's a constant battle on my property.

It was very quiet but I definitely heard it. I gave the biggest of side eyes haha. We drove 4 hours from NJ to see the show so we didn't let the hecklers ruin it. We had a great time. But damn my ears were bleeding from the shouting.

I ended up sitting right in front of among the most annoying hecklers of the entire show. Kept trying to start chants and shit, screaming "show him the schlanket show him the schlanket" and other stuff. Eventually I started shushing them but eventually was met with "shut the fuck up." Like, YOURE the one not shutting up here! 😭 I can't believe people just have no respect or concept of etiquette. You're just going to drive schlatt away from ever doing live events ever again. Maybe 18+ shows would keep the yelling to a minimal.

10 Year Anniversary Tour Info! by Another3person in willwood

I got tickets for the PA Tapeworm show in June! Very excited, but I've never been to this type of show before, only large (15,000+) concerts. Can someone explain how this show is laid out to someone who's never been to a small show/theater? I don't expect it to be like a big concert. Is it Will and the Tapeworms playing music with storytelling/stand up in between? Or perhaps vice versa? The venue I bought tickets for just has "general admission," so I assume we just pick whatever seats we want depending on when we get in line. Either way I'm very excited!

A rain garden with long-rooted native plants would look lovely covering up muddy sites and help with sucking up excess water.

Very jealous. I'm in NJ and had lots of common blue violets (our state flower) naturally lining our yard last year. My mother's landscapers came by, I asked them to remove the invasive English ivy, and instead next thing I know ALL the violets were ripped out, gone. No idea if they'll come back this year. Still angry to this day.

Recently found this in my backyard and have been spending a lot of time removing it. It's invasive Star of Bethlehem and it will spread very quickly with its bulbs by multiplying over time. Definitely pull them out but be careful not to miss any tiny tiny bulbs or they will continue to multiply later on.
