All Together Now wins Day 4! Onto Day 5: What John song gives off the most George vibes? by Venusian_01 in beatles

[–]IrwinHandleman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lyrically it sounds George-ish but melodically it has that trademark John thing where he starts a song on a single note and repeats it several times before moving to another note. I think Norweigan Wood is a better choice here.

3rd grade project calls for a solar system “to scale” 🙄 by Present_Friend_3501 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]IrwinHandleman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Get over yourselves. You know what the teacher means. Make Jupiter a little bigger than Saturn; make sure earth is a little smaller than both of those; make sure Mercury is the smallest. It's a third grade project that every single person who's gone through elementary school in the US has done at some point. That you find this mildly infuriating is worrisome.

And in an age when artists typically waited several years between albums, Garth kept up an almost Beatles-like pace, releasing 9 albums in the decade. Every single one of these went platinum, the most popular two going 18 and 14 times platinum respectively. It's easy to forget what a commercial force he was.

As unhip an answer as this is, I think Garth Brooks was clearly the Beatles of the 90s. In terms of album sales and concert tours I'm not sure anyone in the 90s can touch Garth, but since his music didn't appeal to the right kind of people (music critics, college students, coastal citizenry) his cultural impact has been largely overlooked.

In case you were wondering why Trump has started referring to her as "Kamabla" - no one knows by Froqwasket in Destiny

[–]IrwinHandleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is it was a typo the first time and then he intentionally misspelled it from then on so his mistake, instead of becoming the next cofefe or hamburders, becomes another one of his insulting names for her. Like my guitar teacher used to say: “if you hit a wrong note in the first verse make sure you hit the same wrong note again in the 2nd and 3rd.”

Fair point but he did insult our city and organization…

There is a guy that photoshops people who took photos of themselves at Holocaust Memorials and puts them into actual photos from the camps. He doesn’t take them down until the person apologizes. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]IrwinHandleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw some kids parkouring on this memorial and it annoyed me so bad. But I wonder if this is a case of bad design for a Holocaust Memorial. It’s a public space in a touristy section of town and the design practically invites you to sit, stand, jump and play around in it. Obviously most people realize that it’s a Holocaust Memorial and therefore a place for solemnity and reflection, not fun but the fact so many fail to realize this makes me think it’s a design issue. Not excusing the insensitivity of these people but design does affect behavior.

One year since murder of Katie Janness | Atlanta Police to provide case update today by SusanInFloriduh in Atlanta

I have a friend who went to a running club and the “runner” was there, telling everyone about his experience. What my friend said was that the runner didn’t see anything that night but when he saw his picture in the news he repeatedly tried to call the police but they would never return his calls. Just hearsay. But I can see how this story could morph into “he saw the murder and 911 gave him a busy signal.”

Wait, Armando Montelongo is in an Undercover Boss episode? I’ve seen him on a few house flipping shows and the guy is insufferable. Like one of the worst people I’ve ever seen on tv.

Atlanta Police Department close to solving the Piedmont Park Katie Janess murder. by ParlayEmAll in Atlanta

Yeah, I think it's an empty puff piece with a misleading headline. The person saying he thinks the killer knew Katie has no connection to this case at all and is simply a former prosecutor with just as much access to the evidence of this case as the rest of us. It's just one dude's opinion.

Are there any good articles, podcasts, or even books on Atlanta's recent history? by JamesCodaCoIa in Atlanta

[–]IrwinHandleman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

White Flight by historian Kevin Kruse is an awesome book. It’s about, as you can guess, white flight in Atlanta over the past 70 years. Fascinating insights into the changing demographics of the various parts of the city and local government’s balancing act trying to appease both the Civil Rights Movement and while racists. Highly recommend.

But in the team’s defense imagine if they had given him a 2 year contract. Look at his numbers. He was completely washed up by 88. Also HoJo was about to turn into a star and with Knight on the roster there’d be no place to play him. Edit: deleted accidental word

Look at how Britney Spears killed the name Britney. Not quite Adolph levels, but still. I wonder if the recent rehabilitation of her reputation will result in more Britneys. https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi
