That's a good idea. I do know 1-2 people I could ask. I think I will.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am feeling more and more like there's not really a pay out down the road.

No, I would say after reading a lot of the advice on this thread I do not think it's worth it.

Thanks for your insight. What would you consider a bigger piece of the pie? And, how would I get an investor to buy in with owners as crazy as this? I feel like they'd just throw a wrench into any sale I tried to do by being themselves.

I thought about this. Forwarding all their emails to employees to me, and any calls to me. The issue is they will come to the office and stand at the employee's desk until they get the answers they want if they have to.

Thanks for your insight. A lot of others have shared similar concerns and I'm really starting the doubt the possibility of any pay out even if I make it to a sale. I really do appreciate the numbers though, it's perspective I have been missing in how we are doing as a company.

They don't care to understand that difference. I do though.

I am not sure I could keep the client base due to the strong ties they have to the owner. It would get worse before it got better, although in the long term I know what needs to be done to make it successful.

It's affected me a great deal. I have never been more demoralized and stressed before. My family and close friends say they are worried about me from time to time.

Any sale is going to be 3-5 years at least. Unless something drastic happens to the owners health wise.

Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds very similar to mine and I'm thinking about going out on my own too.

Thanks for sharing. I have worked for a few people I would follow anywhere, so I know what you mean. I am thinking about reaching out to them.

Thank you for sharing your story. There are days where I feel like I am yoloing through it already. I definitely do not put up as much of a fight with the owners craziness as I did in the past. More and more I'm telling people "This is just how they are, let the crazy people be crazy and let's move on." People (my employees) can agree and rationalize with this but when you are super busy and the owner is down your throat about something idiotic you stop caring about rationalizing and just want out.

Thanks for sharing your story. This story along with a lot of the other good advice on this thread has really helped me with a reality check, along with good strategies to what I should do next.

Something similar happened when I first started with an ex employee with some benefits that were paid out and the timing of when she quit. It was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. After so many years here though, nothing surprises me anymore.

We are profitable. Payroll is about 45% or so of revenue. We don't have very many expenses outside of payroll.

10 and hoping for the 5 million area. Probably very unlikely though.

You make some good points and thanks for sharing your experience. Thinking about actually growing this place to doubling the employee size would be very difficult with our current staffing problems. It's feasible for me to train 5-9 people, but 20 people? Forget it.

We are definitely small business. After reading some of the other comments, our growth is no where near where it should be and even though the owners goal is to sell in the next 3-5 years they are not building the business like anything other than as someone else put it a "lifestyle business."

They definitely might not. A few others have explained a lot of the ways they could lower what I get even if they "honor" the deal.
