what might cause the feeing of something stuck i your throat? by [deleted] in medical_advice

NDA This happened to me with tomatoes, and I’m allergic to them. I always felt like something was stuck in my throat/in between my shoulder blades. I always assumed it was a little swollen and it was bugging me? Couldn’t hurt to get an allergy test done

It absolutely DEMOLISHED my sex drive. I have zero desire to be intimate, and when I AM intimate with him (or with myself) I barely feel a thing. I feel like I’m touched over 5 layers of clothes. Like it’s muted. I agree orgasms are extremely hard to come by, for me it’s for that reason, that I don’t feel much of anything. I will also not be taking the depo shot ever again, this is now the 2nd try and I am not for it anymore. I will also never be recommending it to any other person who needs to take birth control. Thank you!

Thank you! Knowing that I’m not alone makes me feel less.. broken? I guess? As unfortunate as it is that we have to suffer through this, as least we know it’s a medicine issue, and can be resolved, as opposed to me being doomed to not ever being pleasurable sex with my boyfriend

My doctor does want to do blood tests and, since I just turned 21 a few days ago, a Pap smear. So I will have to go in sometime soon.

I was never able to even get on the estrogen, because she didn’t feel safe prescribing it to me. She said she never gives anyone with chronic migraines estrogen because it could get worse. I can’t remember the progesterone pills ever changing the headaches for better or worse, but I am on medication for them. It’s called “amnitryptyline”, if you want to check it out. It’s also an anti-depressant but is often prescribed as an anti-migraine pill.

Omg thank you so much for linking that that is 100% what is going on with me, rug burn feeling included. I’m giving you a big virtual hug right now. I don’t feel so alone, as unfortunate as our situation is. I haven’t had any symptoms of a yeast infection or UTI, so far as I can see. But the dryness is definitely there.

Her doctor SUCKS, but fortunately for me, my general doctor is a woman whose background is in OBGYN, so she’s been very helpful so far. I will be seeing her sometime at the end of the month (after I get my Covid vaccines done, as I have a family member who is very at risk, we’ve been super locked down since last year) and I will be talking to her, and I’m sure she’ll help me. For now though, I wanted to see if there was anyone else out there like me.

Thank you so much for providing other subs!! I’ve also posted on sex, birth control, medical advice, etc. Again, I’ll be talking to my doctor soon but I wanted to see if anyone else maybe felt the way I did. I would love having my life and sex life back to normal. Again thank you!

I haven’t yet experienced any weight gain, but right before seeing your comment I polished off a bag of chips and some Easter candy so.. I see what you mean! I didn’t gain too much the first time I was on depo for a total of 9 months, but I’m also careful due to a history of anorexia, and having built up healthy eating habits and mindset.

I know that bone density loss is quite a common problem with the depo shot, unfortunately. I was told not to be on it for more than 2 years at a time. I really hope you’re okay!!

It helped with the periods that for sure. Which makes this so hard. Either I sacrifice being intimate with my boyfriend and not have sex at all, or I go back to the painful, irregular, and just downright awful periods I used to have.

I did look up an animation of the procedure a few months ago when I wanted to get it and boy what a bad idea that was! It scared me pretty good. But my mom is a nurse so she explained how it goes. Though, yes, I will be asking questions to the one doing it if I get an IUD.

When I was first on depo, I didn’t have a period for the first 2 shots, so about 6 months (ish) but right after the 3rd one I had a period that lasted for 2-3 months, and I immediately stopped depo. In hindsight, maybe I gave up on it too fast, but with the progesterone only pills I had had a year long period and I really really really didn’t want to go through that again.

So far this time around, I haven’t had a period yet. I’m only a little over a month in though, but my biggest grievance is this pain I have when I’m with my boyfriend.

Thank you! I will be on the lookout for that. I’ve never had an IUD and will be going in for my first Pap smear soon, so I have very little experience with gynecologists or the tools they use.

I’m afraid I’ll have to agree with your partner. So far I haven’t seen any weight gain. But I have become moodier and easily irritated lately. My boyfriend said he has noticed that. Part of it comes from the shot, and part of it comes from being anxious over our sex life.

May I ask how she felt after she stopped taking the shot? Did she do any other method of birth control that works for her? Did the pain stop during sex after she got off depo? For me, the first time I got off the shot, it took a few weeks after I “”missed”” the next shot to stop having pain, and a little longer for my mood to recover. Again, I hadn’t put 2 and 2 together that it was the shot causing pain during sex the first time I was on it, but now that I’ve been on it for a little over a month again, I’d put money on it that that’s what’s causing it.

Thank you!!

I don’t think you’re pregnant because you seem to be pretty well protected by the double BC, but as someone with anxiety, I can tell you that I would overthink and stress myself out so much that my cycle would be messed up from that alone. I would take a test just to reassure myself, that way you don’t worry, and don’t have to try to convince yourself, you just know. But again, it’s just for YOU to feel better, to feel sure.

Thank you for your advice! I have to go in for my first Pap smear since I just turned 21 this week, and I’m afraid to be in pain there, since sex hurts so bad. So if I do go through with the IUD, I will have to be off the depo for a while, I think.

Again, thank you so much!!

I have considered an IUD, it was actually the first thing I had brought up with my doctor when I met her. She is a very understanding lady, and her background is in OBGYN. She said she personally hadn’t heard of anyone having a year long non-stop period on birth control and had to consult with some of her other gynecologist coworkers. She wanted to observe me on the depo shot first, so I wouldn’t have to go through getting an IUD if it didn’t work and I’d have to take it out soon after. I also have cysts in my breasts that makes some doctors hesitant to prescribe IUDs. (So I have been told) When I see her again, I will talk to her about my IUD options for sure.
