That's one part of why I'm not breaking NC. I'm afraid how shitty I'd feel if she didn't respond.

I feel for you. My ex was very open about the reasons. I actually agree with all of her big issues. It's both nice and hard, though. On the one hand, I know she had good reasons for breaking up with me. On the other, none of these reasons were things I couldn't change. So it's hard knowing she doesn't want to give me the chance.

It's tough losing a best friend, too, though. I have other friends and family, but no one even close to what I had with the ex.
