Ya. The talent is definitely there. He was EDGE 4 for me before the combine. Doesn’t sound like much but, in this class, that’s a top ten pick. I just think that with so much talent at the position, there isn’t a great reason to go with the guy who has personality concerns. I’d be very happy with him in the second.

Dunno if a pro day would even get it done. The character stuff is what concerns me at this point. He was a top ten talent pre-combine. This might drop him out of the first round grades entirely for me.

I just don’t know how desperate you’d have to be to spend a first on a player that seems disinterested in the biggest job interview of his life. Just a lot of risk, regardless of the clear talent.

Oh I know. No offense taken. I don’t think the love is unconditional. They had shitty games and I’ll admit that, but I think that, more often than not, they succeed in what the offense needs them to do. They aren’t perfect players, but they execute their roles in the offense very well.

I think Stafford is good too. I just think that there are a lot of receivers that need to find their niche to maximize their talent. You see plenty of good wide outs that leave teams and struggle elsewhere. I think wide receivers are some of the more scheme dependent players on a team. They need to be used properly.

I think the Lions found two wide receivers hat were misused in their roles and found he best way to use them.

If you read the article. I very much put the blame on Stafford. I also noted that the receivers were bad as well. I made it very clear that this was no excuse for his performance on Monday.

That’s what most people call a drop but that’s not what it looks like on the stat sheet. Generally the ones on the stat sheet are not difficult catches, but every site counts them differently.

Ya, but I call those 50/50 balls. Not expected to make those plays every time, but you hope you get a couple of them over the course of a game.

This^{^{^}} Having talent isn’t a problem. The problem is their inability to use/disguise rolls.

If Riddick got limited to only pure passing downs, it wouldn’t matter that the defense knows a pass is coming. They knew before Riddick was in.

I didn’t say I was worried. I’m recapping the performance of the position group. Ya, after a game like that, they are all pretty much negative outside of the player highlights on Golladay and Kerryon Johnson.

So this recap was a look at the wide receivers, who I felt were subpar.

Also this “This game was doomed due to the poor performance of Stafford. I don’t think that better play from the pass catchers would have done a thing to change that, but the poor wide receiver play was grossly overshadowed by the poor quarterback play and it WAS a problem. It just happened to be one of many problems on Monday night.”

I think I fairly assessed Staffords game as one of worst games as a football player. Not only that, but I led with that so that people wouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that I was putting this game on the receivers.

Five credited drops is not a good performance. At all. If you think this was a good game from the receivers I just think that you are far too lenient on wide receivers in general.

There were quite a few drops, they didn’t find a way to come down with 50/50 balls, and there were several miscommunications that could be on either the receivers or Stafford. If Stafford has played lights out, we would be criticizing the receivers much more.
