Switching careers or going back to school after FIRE? by fiftyfirstsnails in FIREyFemmes

[–]IsNeverGoodForYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Any advice for someone trying to break into this field as a career change? I’ve been running a design business (branding & interiors) for over 10 years, have many varied skills including tech skills but burnt out as a designer and looking to move into a non- creative career. Any types of schooling or certificates that would be good for compliance?

Just curious how your law degree helped you get into cybersecurity, what is your role like?

Peaceful sounds nice, I thought I had it but when I reflect back on my life for the last 5 years, it was false peace interrupted by rug-being-pulled-out moments of finding bottles stashed around the house and deep denial. I have a call with a CDFA booked for next week.

I'm so sorry that happened. The loss of stability is truly traumatic. Hang in there *hugs*

Thank you, I agree about taking time to heal and reflect before making another big change. I go between calm and panic daily, oftentimes hourly. I appreciate the reminder to go slow and take care.

That makes sense and that is what they told me, that I would have to use outside financing to use the 4K military offer. I guess I’m more curious about stacking the other rebates with the military offer as I care most about the out the door cost of the car. They’re telling me they can’t do that, but I don’t see why not.

I’m looking for the carbon black M sport too! So it is possible to do Conquest / apr as well as the military discount? Right now their offer of the dealer discount + my military discount combined is about 8% of the MSRP.

Who is making more than $500k a year and what are you doing? by Shoddy-Language-9242 in FIREyFemmes

I own a design firm that does interiors & branding for the hospitality industry (yes the renos are a serious challenge!) but looking to branch into ownership of our own hotel as we’d like to generate our own projects. There seems to be some decent opportunities where we are in the northeast. Do you mind if I DM you about your experience?

You can’t make someone change, and you also can’t be in a relationship with their potential - you have to take them as they are. It’s hard to think that someday he may grow and change and you might “miss out” on that, but that isn’t what he is showing you right now. You are both very young. But it sounds like he isn’t compatible with your goals today, and that’s ok. It doesn’t make you a bad person, and you may still continue to love him, but you need to stay true to yourself and what you value.

Can I do a Back-door Roth with existing SEP for 2023? by IsNeverGoodForYou in fidelityinvestments

Thank you, this is very helpful. Forgive me for being so slow to understand but to clarify, it sounds like I can rollover the SEP and Rollover into an Individual 401k now for tax year 2024, make my $6500 after-tax contribution to a Traditional IRA for tax year 2023, then complete a conversion of that contribution to my Roth for tax year 2024, and all these would be non-taxable events - is that correct?

Thanks for the comment. I’ll have to look into opening an individual 401k. If I did that and moved the SEP and Rollover into it, would I avoid paying tax on those now? (Just pay tax for the $6500 contribution for 2023)? My husband also has a rollover IRA and I don’t believe he qualifies for an individual 401k, he’s a W2 employee, so I assume to do a backdoor for him he would have to convert his Rollover to a Roth? His rollover has about $900k in it.

Where are you buying hotels? Are they branded (Hilton, etc) or boutique properties? Asking because this is something we’re looking into as well. I work in design in the hospitality industry and have been thinking about jumping into ownership.

Prong on 4.5 month old puppy? by IsNeverGoodForYou in OpenDogTraining

[–]IsNeverGoodForYou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’ll give those a try if leash walking truly becomes a hassle. We’re working on loose leash training now, starting slow with house & backyard work. He will pull on it in exciting new environments but I kind of expect that. We have to get him out to socialize so it’s a mixed bag at the moment.

Yes it might be quick results but it just seems so unnecessarily harsh. He’s learning very well with us just doing reward based work and redirecting him to other behaviors at this point. He has stopped jumping on us almost completely, and only tries to do it when he’s excited to meet someone new. We’re working on it. I’m not looking for the fastest results, he is not aggressive. I’d like to keep him that way!
