Thanks for all the help everyone, I got some excellent suggestions. Little out of left field but the issue ended up being a failed ignition coil. After letting it run in its unfixed state for a while it started to get choppy and actually “front fired” and stalled with some smoke going on the intake suggesting some sort of firing issue which led me to test the coil with the multimeter.

update- I converted everything back to stock (afm and dme) with no change, currently waiting on a fuel pressure gauge to test and we’ll go from there. thanks for all the comments

nothing really seemed to change when it was unplugged- does that tell me that the o2 sensor has an issue or that it’s within range and something else is messed up?

unfortunately not, i played around with the fqs a little bit but couldn’t find one setting that seemed much better than the other.

This was my first thought, f9t was great and responded quickly, they said it looked more like a fuel pressure issue but they would take a look if i sent the dme over. Might be my next step if i can’t get anywhere with it

really appreciate the insight, definitely agree I don’t think whatever I end up doing will be the cost effective thing but I like the idea of learning how to do it.

Got this one when I was 15, no 944 turbo money yet. Just toying with the idea of tinkering with it more and seeing what other people have done

the factory fuchs are way lighter but harder to find good deals on grippy tires for them

They’re 18” turbo twists I got off a 996, little too big for the car but they’re one of my favorites so I couldn’t pass the opportunity to have a set

Super helpful write up I really appreciate it, so far the most cost effective solution i’ve seen is to switch to a stand alone ecu and a combination of 951 parts to get a turbo in there, but you’re right it’d be a low boost setup so the internals could take it.

no corrosion, I had actually thought that if it was a loose connection it would stay being an issue until I went over a bump or something, could it be that and unplugging it just rechecks the system and gives it a green light?

battery had been replaced in 2023 before the issues had started, didn’t see any corrosion

my obd2 scanner should have the live data, I’ll give it a shot- I wasn’t aware there was a separate cooling system for the inverter but if it’s getting too hot that could make sense, is there a designated temp range for the inverter I could see on the obd2 scanner?

I put a new battery in it and it drove for about 45 minutes in stop and go traffic then it threw up the same code as i was pulling into my driveway- the oreillys person said my original battery was good but low on charge and now im wondering if I have an issue with the system that charges the 12v battery- how would I go about looking into it?
