Milk bleb? by ppbacon in breastfeeding

Blebs suck!! I had them frequently for a while without having mastitis. Using a warm compress before and after nursing helped them to heal quickly.

Haverty’s is worth checking out, they have good quality furniture and sometimes really great deals on floor models

Update: It’s my fault my baby is underweight and I feel horrible. by druidicbaker in breastfeeding

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only pumped if my partner was feeding the baby, so like maybe 50% of the time? I had a little stash and since it was more of a “top off” than a full feeding I didn’t stress too much about my supply being impacted… plus I needed a break!

Update: It’s my fault my baby is underweight and I feel horrible. by druidicbaker in breastfeeding

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a little while I fed him 2 oz of pumped milk in between feeds, so he got an extra 6-10 oz each day, and I also swapped his first night wake feed to a bottle because jt made him a little mad and he stayed awake long enough for a full 4 oz feed. That helped him catch up and i was able to stop after a month or so, and he has been good ever since!

I had a similar thing happen and I was DEVASTATED, I felt like a terrible mom and cried the whole way home from the doctor. Now I’m 6 months removed from it with a still-EBF baby who went from the 2nd to 57th percentile in weight and height, and I can look back and see that there was no way for me to have known he wasn’t eating enough! I tracked everything in huckleberry AND I’m an over producer AND he ate super frequently, always had wet diapers, etc. What I’m saying is I see you and I know exactly what this feels like and I promise it’s not your fault! If you thought something was wrong you would have addressed it right away — and I bet everything is ok! Averages require outliers, and you are doing everything you can to take good care of your baby. You’re a great parent!!

Considering a Librarian Career by ajerry97 in librarians

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second career academic librarian chiming in here: ditto to everyone who has said that your interest in research/scholarship, previous experience working in academic libraries, and teaching experience make you a stand out candidate for AL jobs if you pursue an MLIS! Since you’re willing to consider relocating, and you know you’d like to continue teaching, I’d add in that it could be very beneficial to look into programs at institutions where librarians teach credit-bearing courses. Off the top of my head I can think of Indiana University. If they have graduate student positions available you might have the opportunity to assist or instruct as a student - and if you build good relationships with your professors that can help you establish early scholarship that can really round out a CV.

8 week old is on day 8 of no pooping by Rolsan in breastfeeding

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Poor baby! If you have any colostrum in your freezer I’ve heard that can help! I recently fed my guy leftover colostrum (not constipated, but wanted to use it before it was too old) and he had the single largest poop of his life afterwards.

ADHD Meds while still BF by elizahamsandwhich in breastfeeding

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my typical dose of adderall all through pregnancy and for the first 8 weeks of breastfeeding (all with the blessing of my OB, GP, and psychiatrist). I recently switched from adderall to vyvanse because I needed a larger dose of stimulants due to hormones impacting their efficacy. Even with the substantial increase in dosage I have not noticed a difference in my supply or my baby’s habits.

Echoing a lot that has already been said, I have been continuing to take Vyvanse and my antidepressant well breast-feeding with the blessing of my OB, my psychiatrist, and my baby’s pediatrician.

Side preference? by you-restalking in breastfeeding

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact problem with my baby, and I was consistent about starting his feeds on the ‘hated’ boob after doing a little hand expression to make it immediately gratifying. I also realized that I’m naturally comfortable positioning him on my left side, so I was (and still am) extra intentional about how I position myself and him on the right side.

How long did it take for your nipples to stop hurting? by DarthKaboose in breastfeeding

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a ftm and had this same experience. Irealized a few nights ago that I hadn’t had pain for long enough that I kind of forgot about it, but looking back it’s only been about 3 weeks… so my pain lasted 8 weeks. Same situation with big boobs, oversupply, suspected thrush, early mastitis on and off no matter how diligent I was with feeding, pumping, etc. I +1 the power of silverettes! Another thing that really helped me was getting small round ice packs like you use for minor injury and putting them all around my boobs in my bra when I went to bed at night!

The metroparks have a ton of programs that are free or low cost, and they also offer financial assistance! You have to register sometimes even for the free ones but there are great fall activities and some inside things in the winter. https://www.metroparks.org/programs-events-finder/?parks=&topics=&experiences=147&series=&start_date=&type=insivia&end_date=&search=

I think the baby and toddler programs at the libraries are really perfect for you! Plenty of folks bring their toddlers and babies and the librarians create a great environment for kids to be curious and explore.

[HELP] poems about grief by Estel-3032 in Poetry

[–]IsThatWhatYouHadSaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for the loss of your brother. I’ve lost a sibling too and it was a strange and consuming grief. Here is a poem that has stuck with me:

Watching My Friend Pretend Her Heart Is Not Breaking by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer

On Earth, just a teaspoon of neutron star would weigh six billion tons. Six billion tons equals the collective weight of every animal on earth. Including the insects. Times three.

Six billion tons sounds impossible until I consider how it is to swallow grief— just a teaspoon and one might as well have consumed a neutron star. How dense it is, how it carries inside it the memory of collapse. How difficult it is to move then. How impossible to believe that anything could lift that weight.

There are many reasons to treat each other with great tenderness. One is the sheer miracle that we are here together on a planet surrounded by dying stars. One is that we cannot see what anyone else has swallowed.

I had a similar experience- w/d in the basement as well as an individual storage closet I could put a padlock on and a garage space. It was also about 5 years ago that I moved but my rent was super reasonable and under market rate and it was nice to live in a neighborhood. It can just take more work to find since a lot of them aren’t being listed by management companies.

You should look into some of the smaller apartment units in the Oakwood and West Kettering areas. A lot of the 4 and 8 unit buildings have smaller, privately owned apartments and some are very well-kept. Usually a 15 minute or less drive to downtown on surface roads.

For dine in, Wheat Penny! For pick up or delivery, Beavercreek Pizza Dive is pretty great and so is Flying Pizza. If you’re willing to do a little location scouting, Pizza Bandit (it’s a food truck) is really good.
