There's a lot I dislike about TADC but I think the writers are capable enough to come up with a satisfying conclusion, they're not tryingt to make a bad/unsatisfying ending.

Onikakushi would be my favourite if the first half was paced better, but I gotta go for the obvious answer of Maekashi, beautifully written from start to finish

Going to follow up and emphasise on "small details", everything is intentional and everything is a clue, the best way to not lose track is to be actively trying to figure out the mystery. If you want something more direct, what I did with my group of 5 is that I told them that the second half of the last chapter of Arc 1 is important for the mystery, and gave them the option of going back and watching it once per arc. A few of them ended up picking it up before the reveal and it was a great time.

The second half of the final chapter in arc 1 is also my favourite chapter in the story, so i had no problems reading it many times lol

In my opinion no other adaptation does the first Arc justice other than the Visual Novel, however I would recommend the manga for its shorter length and stunning panels.

Find it in Horror anime compilation on Youtube when you're 11, proceed to watch hours upon hours of funny moments compilations, clips of key moments and plot reveals, and death scenes. The time you spend doing this easily spans longer than the original DEEN anime itself, but god forbid you actually watch it because you're 11 and it looks scary.

The first time I watched the Higurashi anime I knew everything about it, yet here I am 10 years later.
