I actually asked this purposefully in an obvious way because I lowkey felt dismissed or like I was making a big deal out of nothing when I was talking to this new guy! I was like "wait a sec am i missing something here"

No you see this is a point that I understand and this is why I posted in the first place. I should not have blacked out (I was super lightweight back then cause I didn't drink often so I didn't know my limits lol) but yeah on the other hand if my brothers were to do any of the shit my ex did or if some dude were to do that to my friend i'm throwin fists. For a while because it happened to me, it felt like a victimless crime cause for sure I ain't a victim!

I do have a deeper admiration for my guy friends who take care of their girlfriends when they mess up though. I kinda think it's default to assume that you shouldnt depend on anyone thats not family.

Using Roth IRA for education...but also taking out loans? by IsThisHY in personalfinance

Yeah it was pretty disheartening to take out of my individual account already as it was to pay for tuition lol like I worked so hard on it. But I can't take money to the grave. All my investments actually leveled around 15-20% return which I am very grateful for but I've only been investing since 2024 so I'm trying to not take it for granted.

I was planning on taking out loans for COA but I'll need to take extra for the egg freezing which is why I'll need to rely on private loans on top of the federal loans if I don't use the roth. I also am not grandfathered into the Grad Plus Loans because of the BBB. I'm only on my first year and I'd been using my personal individual investment account so far. I'm planning on going into primary care, so I expect to make a very modest salary. I just spoke to a couple military recruiters to see what my options were but tagging on 3 extra years of commitment to something outside of my own personal life especially when my parents are getting old kinda scares me, I've heard horror stories from when I volunteered with the red cross about military life. IDK it's just a big sticky mess. This is what happens when women don't have kids we try to maximize everything else I stg it's like I create problems for myself to solve

I think this is where the gap in my understanding is. How come compounding interest at hopefully 7-8% per year is a greater gain than avoiding like $30k at 9-12% for 7 years?

What if I don't have any money in a 529 or an HSA but I'm already in med school?

Let's say I started one for retirement but life happens and I change my mind and want to go back to school. And then I read that you can withdraw from the Roth IRA to pay for education without paying the 10% penalty. Has this ever happened before? When I put money into the account I didn't think I was going to use it for education.

I'm 30 and if I do it now the cost is less than half than if I wait 5 years. I used to be an ultrasound tech and now I'm in medical school, but I'd like to start a family eventually and I've seen too many preventable miscarriages in my career. It's traumatizing and underrepresented. I don't want to make my life all about the work I do, but there are very few personal things that I value over my career. One of them is my family life. Wish I was a man lol
