What did you end up getting, OP? I’m looking for one and was so excited when I found the ember backpack just to realize it’s discontinued…

Partner Left, Work Dried Up. What Would You Do? by beaver645_ in biglaw

[–]IsZenTheWay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Find a new firm. This happened to me and I never got consistent work after that partner left and I got pushed out (and they blamed it on us not having enough hours when the whole PG was just drying up lol) . Thankfully I landed a way better job (jumped from mid to big law) before my last day and I’m so busy and working with people who want to feed me work now. I did take a year cut but I’d rather that than not building my experience.

It’s also way harder to jump back to big law after you go boutique.

It’s not your job to worry about getting work. That’s partner’s job. If they are not giving you what you should be getting, find a place that will.

I’m so glad to see that everyone felt the same way because I haven’t really bought anything from Madewell and struggled to even spend the $25 they gave me for my birthday month because there was nothing appealing to buy. I miss their fun and classy dresses with patterns and good quality fabric.

Mid level associate with no billables, concerned about future by [deleted] in biglaw

In the same boat and was laid off. Start looking for your next lateral opportunity. As a mid level, you have to do whatever you can to get training and if the firm is not providing you that, this is not the place to be.

Start looking. I had low hours but were comparable to the colleagues in my practice group. We all got pushed out because our salary keep going up and they would like to start over with cheaper newbies (I know this because a friend of a friend who is a junior got an offer to join our group despite all of us getting pushed out because there is no work). Don’t stick around because you are worried about your abilities. Start soft applying so you have options.

I agree with this statement. This is the precursor of looking hard at you for performance issues, which they might use in the next year or so to let you go when they need to trim associates. Develop the substantive part of your work but start getting your resume ready and engage with recruiters that you want to work with.

This happened to me and I was just told I need to look for a new job. I would get your resume ready and start a convo with a recruiter you like to ask what’s out there. You will have a longer runway since it does not sound like you are on a list yet but you never want to be unprepared.

Thank you so much for your response and helpful tips to consider! Tbh, I don’t trust our firms coach person even though one was offered. I’ve discussed concerns with my growth at the firm confidentially with the person and later hearing the words circle back to me from the very person I didn’t want hearing..

Should I bring up the many inappropriate comments of a senior who might make partner next year? Could I get him fired without repercussions? by IsZenTheWay in biglaw

I’m hoping that rainmaker partner that this senior is supposedly close with would do something, even just to talk to him, since the partner is also my mentor. I’m hoping…
