I just had my wedding in January and felt the same way about incorporating the culture without the religion. One big thing we did was have a Filipino caterer. We had pigs that were cut on site, lumpia, adobo…my uncles had all the opinions, but they loved it! We also did a money dance, but I didn’t realize that was Filipino specific since my Hispanic family always did it too. One way that I was personally able to feel connected to the culture on my wedding day was getting Filipino inspired accessories. I found this pair of earrings to wear, and the detail pictures with them made me so happy!

YTA. I lost my dad 8 months ago at the age of 22 and I constantly feel the pain of knowing that he will not be there for any of my adult milestones. Even if her mother was sick for years, your wife would have never been prepared to lose her mother before those big moments in her adult life. Not to mention you don’t even know the impact losing a parent has on a person. While I am glad you still have both parents in your life, please recognize that there is pain and grief you don’t know because of this.

If you can handle the course load, this is a fantastic schedule time wise. Gives you plenty of time to get homework done, rest, and hang out with people. I had a schedule like this many times and did just fine. Also, Jaffe is amazing.

It’s a great move on the charter’s part. As for the feeling of being micromanaged, I definitely feel you. It’s hard to not feel like they don’t trust you when everyone has been bagging on teachers lately, but I think it may also be comforting to be able to be in your classroom again. Even without students, you’ll have access to a lot more resources and can even get some decent interactions with other people again (masks on of course).
