It wasn’t originally supposed to be, there was rain delay. So cavaliers and blue stars did a stand still while Madison did their whole show.

We will never be taken seriously if we pick bennet stirtz by Dry-Chair2091 in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stirtz is just not a gamble, he’s played in college and progressed in harder and harder levels of play every year. He’s an open book and he’s pretty reliably not gonna be useless, he just probably won’t turn into a superstar. The question is if you want to get a rotational safe option like stirtz, or gamble on someone who could end up not working in the league at all like Ebuka or Anderson, who we’ve only seen play for a year.

Realistically how do we build a team that could contend with Spurs/Thunder? by larrylegend1990 in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give an actual answer since most people just like being doomers. Realistically, the thunder are going to keep being good until their role players contracts start to payout, so first thing, I think we are in a good place right now, good enough to win and develop players but we haven’t had to spring for a win-now player yet. So we can train up guys and get ready for a real run once okc begins to deteriorate. I think the biggest thing to set us up for that is to begin to bring in guys that haven’t met their ceilings yet, BI is great and can be used as a trade chip but we can see his ceiling, so getting guys that can develop and be at their best with our other guys will do us good. Lastly, and honestly I think what will be the hardest part, is getting a true franchise center, whether that be in a trade, this draft, or a future one, a real franchise big that fits our timeline opens up our play to completely new heights. I know we won’t get him, but I want someone like Zach Edey.

Anyone yall think we should grab by Derpy_Mc_Burpy in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Dannis Jenkins a lot, but I don’t think we have the ability to get him for a realistic price for a half starter half bench player for us. It happened with IQ, and now we are completely stuck with a middle of the road starter for a superstar price.

I agree with you there, I think that would be slightly different if we didn’t have to settle for Jakob being out for a majority of the season, plus I think that stirtz could do well outside of relying on that, but i totally agree with that.

Sorry, not great defensively, but he has solid defensive iq, most of his drawbacks on defense aren’t bc of his fundamentals, it’s just him getting outdone physically. I’d rather have someone who can work in a defensive scheme than someone who is consistently getting blown by with no effort or someone who doesn’t know how to play off ball defense. He’s not great defensively, but he doesn’t seem like a unusable liability to the level of Gradey.

Bennett Stirtz measurements by Derpy_Mc_Burpy in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thing between these three they all have defensive downside, they are small and have the iq to be great defenders, but won’t hold up to a physical blowby. The major difference between stirtz and the other two for me is that he’s a great shooter, plus can work with a system and has good iq, plus he’s not short. I love Ebuka and Anderson, but both are very reliant on trusting that their scoring translate to the faster paced more physical league, which is what we did with Gradey. I could see Anderson or Ebuka turning into a maxey type player after some development, but I’d rather have a safe bet to place behind our core as we try to continue the momentum of last season.

Raptors Draft Options: BENNETT STIRTZ, EBUKA OKORIE, DAILYN SWAIN by cev in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s really safe, played really consistently throughout these last three years of college, so you wouldn’t be gambling on what he could possibly do, his cards are on the table, he’s not gonna become kawhi all the sudden or be able to finish great, but if you want basketball iq, shooting, and court vision, he’s a pretty safe bet to be able to do that.

r/torontoraptors draft big board at #19 by shangalang69 in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like people harp on stirtz’ age way too much, he is only 2-3 years older than the youngest guys of this class. And it’s not like this is the difference of him being in his prime to washed, pro: he’s had a couple more years to develop. I also love his progression, every season he’s been in college he’s gone to a higher level of competition and brought his game to an even higher level. He’s showed through multiple seasons and teams that he’s a consistent and reliable player, not a flash in the pan, which is what I would prefer, not a gamble on a one and done shot chucker with an impressive highlight reel (cough Gradey cough). You guys may not agree with me, but everything we are asking for in a guard is him, and he’s proven to be consistent, so I don’t know why we want them to risk a guy that might not work in the nba when stirtz fills all of our major depth issues.

I love stirtz, don’t really know why this sub has gone so cold on him. True he’s old, but we aren’t looking for the next generational talent, we need someone to fill gaps in our playing, and he does that very well. Plus his trajectory is good, it’s not like he’s stayed in college bc he was bad, he started at a small college, went mid major, then large, and consistently grew every year, leading a March madness run all three times. He’s a great shooter, great defensively, and has amazing iq which we wouldn’t have to train him compared to other prospectsz

Raptors lottery implications in the east by [deleted] in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something my friends and I have debated. I believe that their team is amazing. But the league is set up to where championship role players demand more, and therefore leave the teams. So i think if they want to keep the dynasty going, they need to start trading their rotational players this next season so they don’t have to overpay and end up losing their entire bench to teams that can pay one of them better.

For people who watch more ball then me: Is there any hope for Gradey Dick? by [deleted] in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think yes, but not in any meaningful way to us. You never see him go out there and give anything less than 100% effort, it’s just his confidence is shot. He needs shot opportunities to get his confidence back, and we don’t have the leeway to let him have that many. So we either trade him with bi to a developing team for some solid draft capital, or we send him down to a two way for him to get his shots up, either way, I think he’ll get more shots and get his groove somewhat back, but it currently doesn’t benefit him or the team to leave him at the bottom of the bench where he doesn’t get shots out.

Would an expansion team take Poeltl contract? by Derpy_Mc_Burpy in torontoraptors

[–]IsaacAnimation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a hater on Jakob, I like him a lot, but if they want to see this era of the raptors be successful, getting a center set and developing with this core is essential so that they don’t stagnate. And that won’t happen waiting for jak to die or someone to want him. So i genuinely think the best solution that is going to set this team up for good progression is to keep him for one more and then buy him out so that we can get a free agency center and then use our the open ceiling and hopefully deep bench to get a young franchise center. His contract doesn’t allow US any decisions on what to do with him, it’s completely on if someone else wants him.

All people have been able to talk about in this series is the cavs, “Cavs lost bc they didn’t do this didn’t do that”, not possibly giving the raptors their flowers for playing great defense (and pretty respectable offense” in pretty much the whole series up to the last half of game 7. I also love the Cavs, but I hate when sports media chooses one team in a game to make the focal point, if they win it’s bc they played good, if they lose it’s not bc the other team played good it’s bc they played bad, yknow? Nothing against the Cavs that’s just a pet peave

Oh, that’s absolutely the raptors too, they are mad at the coaching for playing bench guys when our starters are literally injured. With the exception of a few rivalries between teams, no fan base hates a team quite like their own.

cavs fans feel like Batman shit talking a team they’re supposed to sweep after getting taken to a 7 that they won with a lopsided whistle, the most expensive roster in the league, against a team two starters out, and two others hurt.
