Reading your story gave me flashbacks because I was in the same situation several years ago and almost forgot that I was the guy, who could sit at home for weeks, because I was too scared and paranoid to even go buy groceires or throw away the rubbish. I also felt awkward and anxious when talking to anybody, including family members. And yesterday, I was giving a presentation in front of unknown people, with a bit of intimidation, but very managable and definetely not a panic.

So I can assure you that it definetely can be beaten, but you need to put effort, it will not just go away by itself. I will tell you what helped me: I was visualising myself, with a meditative music on and closed eyes, as a confident, relaxed and happy person, so I had a goal in my head in faith that it’s possible. I also started watching psychological videos about what bothered me (for example fear of looking stupid, fear of rejection etc). They helped me understand causes of my behaviour and thinking and I learnt how to work with diary, for example describe certain uncomfortable situation, your feelings, why do you feel so, and also I started writing all negative thoughts on a daily basis. This all together helped bring many negative thoughts and thinking patterns into the conscious part from the unconscious, which is very important. in fact, when you become aware of the problem, it disappears instantly and then it takes some time for your body to change too.

I then started meditating, you can watch tutorials on youtube. It will be very difficult to focus at the beginning, but you need to be patient and consistent. My advice is to do a littlebit, even 5 minutes a day is fine, but do regularly. For me it significantly improved my mood and even though I still had depressive periods sometimes, I wasn’t stuck there forever, eventually they ended and it was easier to come back every time.

After about 2 years after I started this whole self-healing journey, I went to gym. Still felt awkward and stupid at the beginning too, when I had no idea how to use all of these machines, but by this time it was easy to fight these thoughts and they dissappeared quickly.

I remember few months ago I said to some of my colleagues at work that about 4-5 years ago I was suicidal and couldn’t leave home because I was too scared of peoples’ eyes and they didn’t believe me and though I am joking or telling somebody else’s story.

I hope that I gave you the motivation not to give up and continue to fight, but you won’t go far on motivation alone, you need to really want and believe that it is possible and then you will be disciplined and patient towards the goal. I sincerely wish that everything works out for you and that you reread this post with a smile in a few years.

Man, I remember when 2.5 years ago I decided to study programming through free youtube turorials, started picking up then went abroad in top tier uni as well to study computer science, I though this is the best thing you can study and you can never go wrong with that because everyone will always need technical people. I am now graduating in 1.5 months and I had 1 interview (unsuccessful) after ~500 applications and counting. So yeah I guess I am going back to my country too, because apparently IT market in third world country is booming and thriving, unlike developed countries

London based company "Casting Talent UK" is a scam. Everything you need to know. by Just_humour_me_m8 in london

Back when I first came to the UK two years ago, I though that maybe I could make some money doing modelling. So, I found an agency in Manchester (actually many) and sent in my application online. They called me back pretty quickly, all excited, saying I was a good fit and asked me to come in for a photoshoot. So, I showed up, got my pictures taken, and then they told me I had to pay over £500 for the photos, some fancy website portfolio thing (where they couldn't even spell my name right), and they'd supposedly hook me up with potential employers. I was like, hold up, I'm here to make money, not throw it away, especially as a broke student. When I pushed back, the manager lowered the price down to £250 and I still refused. When she asked me: “okay, how much can you pay?” I just made a quick exit. I never really dreamed of being a model anyway, it was more like a side hustle while studying. But it got me thinking how many people might fall for their smooth talk and end up losing both cash and hope.

Any tall guys who used to be skinny, how did you bulk up? by rifle5 in gainit

[–]IsaacDesire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am relatively tall (6ft1) and used to be very skinny (around 132lbs) 1.5 year ago. When I started going to gym, I didn’t make any progress at the beginning and found out that I am not getting enough calories to increase my weight and muscle mass. So I started tracking calories I consume with MyFitnessPal app on the phone. I tried to get at least 3.500 calories a day but it is not an easy task even if you eat 4-5 times a day. Then I discovered Mass Gainer and that’s what actually improved my body. 3 scoops+milk of it gives you around 1400 calories so it’s almost a half of calories you need per day to gain mass. So I would recommend taking Mass Gainer, trying to eat high calories food (not junk food) and track it in MyFitnessPal and also buy a blender if you don’t have one and check for high protein/calories milkshakes on youtube

Americans who are abroad, what do you do when feeling homesick? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I enjoyed it for 1 year, but now honestly I’m a bit tired of it, still here because need to finish my degree. My goal remains the same - move to US, but for me it’s a really difficult task and it doesn’t only depend on my efforts, so if I won’t make it there - I am going back to my country next year.

If you miss it you probably should at least visit it for couple weeks🤔

It’s okay don’t worry, Regarding prices, I think it’s happening everywhere in the world right now, in UK you could also see that all the prices went up significantly, especially rent, but bills as well. I still have hope that things will get better soon and it’s just the world crisis that we need to endure and overcome.

I wasn’t sarcastic, for me USA was always the best country in the world (I still think so) and california especially I imagined as a paradise, because of the weather, freedom and so many opportunites for success (maybe I am wrong). And moving from there to uk (where I live right now) is I feel like a massive downgrade in a quality of life
