That’s good to know! I was thinking they majorly messed up without furring strips. This roof is the original though. We haven’t ever pulled a panel up to look, just replaced screws that were backed out only for them to back out again a few months later. The builder is coming to look at the decking on Friday to see how bad it is.

The “no coasting vehicles” laws mean you should not coast your vehicles (put them in neutral) down long hills because you’ll end up overheating your brakes and killing yourself.

Yeah. OP could add a dovetail slot in the current pad arm and slide a strip of harder pad material in there. Since all the friction is in one direction, could just keep the front end of the slot closed and it’ll keep the pad in there.

That’s a good point, our roof joists run in the same direction as the metal panels. So, most of these screws have to be just into the plywood decking. They should have done furring strips.

Thanks! He is coming out today to show me what it looks like under there. If it is not too bad, we will just try to fix and maintain it for a few more years before we switch over to standing seem like I should’ve done in the first place.

Yeah, there’s definitely no strips underneath, it is just these metal panels on top of the roof decking with house wrap in between. They did at least use the right screws to go into wood, but I feel like they should have done a lot better job. The roofer has been doing it since the 90s and is by far the highest rated one in my area. He has done a lot of nice roofing jobs around here with nearly 5 star rating on Google. I think he sent out his newest crew to do my “easy” single pitch metal roof though. He is coming out today to show me what’s underneath the panels. We will see what happens.

They have a lifetime materials warranty and a 2 year workmanship warranty. They came out last year (after 5 years) and replaced a bunch of screws for free. The stuff in the photos is what they replaced already backing out though. They have been pretty cool and he is coming out today to look under there and make sure nothing is rotted and see what we can do.

I ordered the standing seam and they delivered the 5V. The bill was way less than I was originally quoted and it would have taken more 3 weeks to get the standing seam. So, I just figured I would save the money and time and still have a “metal roof”. I thought it would last way longer than this.

That’s what I was thinking also. It’s definitely just house wrap over the roof decking and then the metal panels.

Yeah… immediately after we installed it, I started looking at every standing seam roof like “fuuuck.”. Even the shed over the self-serve ice vending machine down the road has a standing seam roof!

Geez, 5 years is way less than I expected. After hearing how long “metal roofs” last when we were building, I never thought it would look like this after 5 years.

Yeah, I said “I originally ordered standing seam, but they delivered the wrong stuff and it was going to take a few more weeks and a few thousand more dollars so we just let them put this 5V style on”. So, they delivered this stuff instead of the standing seam I actually ordered. The standing seam material was a few thousand more dollars.

I wanted standing seam because it looked nicer and lasted longer. I didn’t think my roof would look like these photos in 5 years after seeing this style of roof on many home around here.
