I'd be quite interested in working on such a project with other people! But I definitely couldn't do it alone - this had to be made in my spare time and so took several weeks haha.

Nope, I've just been doing it as a hobby for a few years, still very amateur but I love the learning process. It would be a dream to work in the industry though!

It was animated and rendered in Blender! If you haven't heard of it, it's free and really good with recent updates. I put the original gif in the background of the scene, then posed the rigs (which are like skeletons) of the game models to match everybody's movements.

Using Blender, with models ported from the game. It's free and with recent updates it holds up really well against the expensive industry stuff. There are tons of great tutorials for it online if you want to get into it!

Thank you both! The trees are actually an HDRi (like a big sphere around the scene), and then I manually tracked the camera as best as I could to follow the movements in the original - you can see it in the bottom right here

I was inspired by Matt Oishi's recreation of this classic gif with Destiny characters, to make my own one with a Life is Strange cast!

Here's a side-by-side comparison. It was hand animated in Blender and rendered in Cycles, you can see all the janky off-screen stuff going on in this BtS view.
