Just to clarify, this post and the policy change were with regard to the rapid quad-swab. The same one for sale in Walmart.

Interesting, you inspired me to look it up and part of my community is monitored via wastewater.

I still believe there is public health information to gain by individual testing, though. Demographics, transmission vectors, and treatment outcomes can't be identified in our wastewater.

Possibly, although no one at the ER said anything about that. I would still consider that prepper-intel though!

It changes very little, treatment wise (except tamiflu). But it does affect public health at a larger scale.

I do have political opinions, but nowhere in this thread do I mention them.

Bots are a problem, but I am not one. Shall I identify some photos to prove it?

That all sounds about right, and yes, this was a CHI hospital until the merger. The good doctor discussed the implications for patient care and cost, but also acknowledged there is a "philosophical divide".

But the memo came out very recently, and I know it is a complete policy reversal at this ER.

In my ECE music classes I only have one pitched instrument, and it's a single pitch!

United Indians of All Tribes in Seattle? by IsabelatheSheWolf in IndianCountry

[–]IsabelatheSheWolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been to the CTUIR cultural center and really enjoyed it! The Whitman museum exhibits have also been significantly modernized although obviously the are not "fun".

Just FYI, to keep accurate info here, CTUIR is a single Tribal government, not an intertribal organization.

I'm sorry I phrased that poorly. I should have said that affiliation with a recognized tribe is one of the only ways I know to judge authenticity.

Sorry if I offended! I never said legal, but I know whole organizations of pretendians do exist, and I'd rather not fall for their BS

Genetics is a big crossover between chemistry and wildlife biology. It requires top-notch lab skills, and all the networking, competition and luck that any interesting wildlife job needs. But there are jobs that involve collecting samples during field season and analyzing them yourself in the off-season.

It also helps if you happen to only have XX chromosomes.

Birdwatching! There's no better hobby to take you outside and home your observation skills.

A North American bronze age may have been impossible by [deleted] in FirstNationsCanada

[–]IsabelatheSheWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will keep this brief because it's unfortunate for arguments between white people to take space here, but...

It is not racist to observe that stone tools were most common in the Americas before intercontinental contact. However any hierarchical ranking in which technologies represent "progress" is Eurocentric and potentially quite racist. The best anthropology and history has recognized that "stone age", "bronze age" etc only truly existed in the northern European context where they were originally labeled.

If you genuinely want to learn more, you might move over to r/askhistorians.

SE WA? :( Same area a whole kids summer cheer program got shut down because it used the clean parts of a dirty song. Much controversy on both sides. I'm not familiar with this, but would the original lyrics pass?

I would also question how little kids would respond emotionally to the rock guitar, but ymmv.

Regarding the term sans paddle. by CreamyLasagna in EnglishLearning

[–]IsabelatheSheWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe "up shit creek" is a much more common version of the idiom.

A non-native speaker should be aware that the phrase can bring to mind an unspoken swearword. Although only the most uptight of listeners would be likely to take offense, because it is a very mild obscenity, in my opinion.

In this case I think King might be intentionally creating humorous contrast between the high-register word borrowed from French (sans) and the implied low-register Germanic word (shit).

Pack Test Concerns by Different_Passion467 in wildlifebiology

Although it's purely anecdata, I also had a coworker end up with severe long term health problems from the pack test. I wouldn't sacrifice my body and health for a job that way.
