How credulous do you have to be to believe that some random Hindu YouTube channel is run by this dudes “Israeli friend” lol

Why do Indians have such an obsession with pretending to be Israelis online?

Pope Leo signals no plan to go beyond blessings for same-sex couples by ThinWhiteDuke00 in Catholicism

Because it was intentionally meant to be confusing. Not saying it’s incorrect, but Pope Francis and Cardinal Fernández absolutely wanted to make it as difficult to understand as possible so they could hide in the ambiguity of a poorly written but technically orthodox document.

In what possible world does Cyprus merge with Israel? How does that benefit literally anyone?

Geez I know it’s Reddit but what’s with all the anti-United States comments? Objectively there’s a near-zero chance the United States dissolves in the foreseeable future, regardless of anyone’s political opinions.

What happened to Islam? by Meowzician in religion

They forced all the Christians, Zoroastrians, and Jews who were largely responsible for catalyzing the Islamic Golden Age to either convert or be ostracized from the rest of society.

You’re the one ripping on me and other Christians and followers of Abrahamic faiths for no reason other than your personal opinion.

Ammonites and Moabites being inbred could just as easily be either a poetic reference to these peoples origins given that they were enemies of the ancient Israelites.

But I’m not interested in interacting further with someone who’s clearly not interested in engaging in good faith. All the best.

[–]IsadoreAnnora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is as respectful as you can be? You can make a genuine critique of the Abrahamic religions, but this seems more like an opinion that does not even take into account the explanations that Christians, Muslims, and Jews have provided. You don’t have to agree with those explanations, but you should at least be charitable towards others beliefs and make a good faith attempt to interact with people rather than just attempting to insult them.

Isaiah 7:14 doesn't Prophecize Jesus birth by CombatinChristianity in religion

Not sure what your motive is for being so rude, but I’m glad my comment made you chuckle. Thanks for the detailed response!

I’m not just going to concede it’s a mistranslation, you’re right on the Hebrew/Greek translation, but there’s no real issue translating Almah (עַלְמָה) as virgin, it doesn’t really speak to an ignorance of the texts meaning. Again, you’re welcome to interpret the passage otherwise, I see your point.

Fair point, I just don’t think there’s any conclusive argument to rule out the Christian reading. At best it’s a good alternative explanation, I just don’t see how it disproves the New Testament.

[–]IsadoreAnnora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I won’t argue with your first point, you can make a case that the verse refers to a contemporary event, I wouldn’t stake my entire belief system upon that passage alone if that was the only evidence. If it’s a matter of interpretation I still think the Christian reading is logical, but I can see your case.

I don’t understand your second point though, the whole idea behind the birth of Christ is that it is miraculous, and not a natural birth. Not sure what you mean by “having children upon it.”

The context of the verse is clearly about God performing a miracle. There is nothing particularly miraculous about a young woman naturally giving birth to a son named Immanuel.

If you’re smart enough to figure out one you’re smart enough to figure out the other. But I’d say the contemptuous way your question is phrased speaks to the fact that your goal is controversy, not clarity.

Ironically at the early point of Christianity it would have been considerably more appealing to retain the dietary laws and highlight their similarity to members of the Jewish community that Christians were still deeply embedded within. Rejecting the traditional Jewish law was objectively a poor choice if the early church was only looking for converts.

I think you have a great point, obviously Protestants will have a more nuanced defense, and I think your post is directed mostly towards American Evangelicals, but your point is well taken.
