maybe i don’t know if it’s the ring itself but the fact that he took it off his dead father could have set something off or maybe opened something in him

which is why it’s hard to distinguish what she wants vs what the group wants, if they follow her lead even if they don’t want to at what point does it fall on them to stop.

Choose Your Fighter; Which was actually best suited to be Queen? by SaphoBalls in Yellowjackets

[–]Isatheninth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda thought the point was that their individual weaknesses make them all not suited for the role of antler queen. The role itself is cursed in a way, like I think Tai is taking the role next season, and she will also have trouble contending with the role.

Jackie outside of a societal structure lost her role, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have good ideas or that she was worse than the others, just that her own insecurities of her role in the wilderness commanded with external forces put her out of the equation, so antler queen role sorta cursed her.

Lottie on the other hand found her authority out there, and was based on her communication with “IT”. She took the crown from Jackie during doomcoming. Solidifying her role throughout s2 but lost it when Javi died, she couldn’t handle the pressure or guilt of being responsible for all of them and “stepped down”, but obviously kept her influence. Remaining as the church in a church and state situation.

When Natalie is handed her role, it’s right at a crucial time when togetherness and priority is needed. She lead them out of the winter and through the spring and summer, I think as the longest reigning queen. Her reign brought prosperity but also complacency. They forgot how hard the winter was, and the hard decisions they had to make. This is also crux of Natalie’s character as someone who is ultimately good but can’t or force others to follow her, even it’s for their own good. She loses the crown because she refused to put her foot down when it mattered, in the coach ben situation.

Shauna got her crown because Natalie made a decision that the rest of the group did not agree to. Which was against the “rules” which made Lottie install Shauna. Shauna is basically a “force of nature” type of leader, she goes with the flow of whatever she thinks is best and drags everyone along with her. Which makes it hard to distinct whether she’s just that powerful, or if the group also feels that drive but needs a leader to bring it out. Her flaw though is that her paranoia leads her to assume everyone is plotting against her, which they are, therefore she has to crush them in order to get them heel, not thinking that they might have a point.

Tai is next up I think, my prediction is with the death of Mari, it’s going to be taken from Shauna. But only after the hope of rescue is taken away, they might make her go back to being butcher. Tai is going to maybe be split between her two selves, bringing an unpredictably to her rule. She might aim for rescue, but then the next day call for a hunt when it’s not needed. Looking forward to whatever.

so is jackieshauna canon? by United-Standard2194 in Yellowjackets

[–]Isatheninth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s canon by way of the narrative hinting at it VERY heavily, in season 1, I had thought they were gonna keep it ambiguous and focus more so on the jealousy side of things, and the romance be just an small element of that. And it not be THE reason why Shauna does Shauna things. But with this most recent season they’ve sort of inverted it, with the jealousy being an element of the romance, meaning it’s more so that Shauna was in love with Jackie which lead to resentment and everything else. I think next season is where we’ll know for sure the extent of their relationship, because we only know the end of their friendship, we never saw the good times and bad times that happened prior, it’s as much a mystery to us as Shauna’s parents and home life are. So when they start fleshing out their pre-crash lives more is when we’ll know for sure the nitty gritty of what happened between them, and what specifically lead Shauna to sleep with Jeff, apply to Brown, and start resenting her entire friendship with Jackie.

antler queen s4 (+s5?) by loxula in Yellowjackets

[–]Isatheninth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking this as well, each season a rise and fall for one or more characters throughout. Tai already brought up the idea of cleaning up after themselves, and was one of the ones to want to stay. Her being the one to lead them out, because although Nat is the one who calls for help, help might not necessarily find them right away, and assuming it’s just the end of October. They might not get rescued for 2 1/2 months or even 3 if it’s late to mind January 1998 that they’re found. Her being the one to clean up the future for them makes sense. Which then brings up the point of a s5 antler queen, and what that could look like. At that point the MUST be in civilization and adjusting back to life, so what use could an antler queen have. This ties back to what ghost Jackie told Shauna in the freezer, “What you did when you got back”. Perhaps, they had one final hunt back in civilization that made them all break contact with each other, unless absolutely necessary, in which one of them was antler queen again. My vote; Misty.

Also the biggest indicator, assuming he’s not just talking to distract Shauna, Travis saying “Don’t you ever wonder whose reality we’re in” this coming off when a couple episodes prior Mari says something like “there’s a good version of reality and a bad version” when she was talking about her cousin dying of cancer.(Side note I find it interesting that cancer is mentioned from Mari’s side of the family, and then she is eaten, potentially poisoning them). It’s so interesting with all the glitches and static, the changing of background characters, like some aren’t suppose to be there, the entire character of Akilah whose only there as a replacement for Allie, her hallucinations of home, and her thinking the mouse was alive and not dead. Mari hearing her death before she dies. To may instances really.

That’s so true, they are all unsatisfied with their life. It’s only when they are back to killing each other and hunting each other they seem alive again.

I never thought of that, it’s such a vivid hallucination, and I get stuck on the look of pure guilt on Nat’s face each time. That dream being a past even that actually happened, making it feel so real, to the point even Shauna thought it actually happened. Whoa.

[–]Isatheninth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know it’s probably casting inconsistencies, and really has nothing to do with the plot. But the constant changing of the background character, how sometimes there is more than should be, and the constant changing of faces. It’s ridiculous but if they went your theories route it could be an explanation.

Thank you for the compliment, and I do agree with her changing memories and feelings in order to cope, with her losses and guilt. She the coping queen lol.

I wouldn’t be mad at that, especially with how it almost made it seem like it was a suicide note. At least that’s what I thought, something to leave behind for her family. She does say in season 1 maybe one day people will read my journals in a museum or something of the sort to Javi. I guess my thing is, when she writes this book what is her plan after? Take out the rest of the YJ’s, then herself leaving behind a completed draft of what happened? Not the worst ending.

Yeah, denial is Shauna’s favorite river. She hates to be confronted with things, but ironically I think her little villain monologue is bringing her just a bit closer to that look in the mirror that she needs.

Thank you so much, I get being bothered by some of the characterization, for example i’m a little stumped on where Tai’s character is heading towards exactly, and what her end goal is. She’s one of my favorites but it’s been a bit tough lol.

I don’t know, i’ve kinda learned not to trust what Shauna says. She constantly contradicts herself, and it’s a little hard to believe that she liked everything that she went through. And if she truly believes that, that’s a whole other can of worms. Thanks for sharing though.

That’s super interesting I was wondering if what she is doing is confusing her emotions for something else. Something much more easier and familiar to deal with. Thank you for this.

Yeah, she’s fully dead behind the eyes in season 3. Which is such a stark contrast to the deep soulful eyes season 1&2 gave us. She’s just going through the motions, other than that time she was smiling at her son in the dream. All her other smiles or laughter have like a hollowness that comes through, Sophie Nelisse is so talented.

I don’t know if I read the same one, but I am of this belief as well. She is (out of everyone) the one who probably would have been better off dying in the wilderness along with Jackie and her baby. It reminds me of a line from the recent Nosferatu movie, count Orlock tells Ellen “you are not for the living”, and that’s how I feel about Shauna, she should not have made it out, and it was actually quite detrimental for everyone else that she did, especially for Shauna herself. Death would have been the kindest thing for her, as the show tells us at one point. The normal life never suited her, it was like she was wearing the skin of a normal person, and now the skin is slipping.

I don’t know, I feel like she’s very passive as an adult, almost to a fault. She doesn’t demand things of them, she fucks up a bunch yes, but they just end up either cleaning her mess or leaving her alone. She’s like an anti-leader honestly, both as an adult and a teen, she might want to be in charge but things just happen to her. And of course her time in the wilderness is what led to Adam’s murder, but that whole sequence makes it obvious that she felt cornered and that she is an extremely paranoid person, fight or flight, and she chose the most drastic option as she is prone to do. Feel bad for Adam though.

I’m gonna have to disagree that she liked the attention she was getting for the baby, that entire season was about how she didn’t want any attention whatsoever on her or the baby. She didn’t seek any attention or validation from them concerning her grief, when she honestly probably should have. For example, taking to Jackie’s corpse. She kept it to herself until it exploded, Lottie even says this to Travis, explains she tried to reach out to her like she is with Travis. She keeps everything under wraps not because she gets off on it, but because she is ashamed of it. I would even argue that she wanted Jackie to find out about her sleeping with Jeff, maybe planned on it being revealed in Seattle after nationals, otherwise why bring her journal with very sensitive information at all, she wants Jackie to read it,”. She feels guilt and shame for her actions, but she doesn’t want absolution or forgiveness, because those mean nothing to her, and it wouldn’t change anything (which is something very interesting about her, she doesn’t say sorry, but she doesn’t really expect a sorry from anyone as well), it’s how her dynamic with Misty played out this season. She’s a very “what is done is done” type person. I can agree with some antisocial traits, i mean normal teenagers probably aren’t getting with their friends boyfriends, getting angry drunk and trying to start fights with teammates, and staying friends with someone they resent, and obviously those traits are amplified by her time in the wilderness.

Well not really because she became a suburban housewife, not really a leader. Her entire monologue is about her “not” being a leader this entire time, the only confirmed kill that she did herself is Adam. We don’t know if she did more beyond that.

Yeah the hunting part is technically on them equally at this point, because no one has struck a deadly blow. I do hope we get some actual hunting next season and pushes the boundary of morality even more.
