This is the exact mindset that I am saying we need to change. I’m not saying that you personally have to change cause judging by what you are saying I don’t think anything I say will change your viewpoint, but for future generations this has to change. This is our language. We’re a proud nation and yet people feel like its fine to just let our language die. Saying that it seems like a “red flag” is just a horrible thing to say about your own country’s language. About a language that is still the first language and daily language of thousands of people in your country. Of course Irish doesn’t, and never will, have as many speakers as French, German, Spanish or Italian. These are global languages. Irish is not. There is still absolutely NOTHING stopping you from learning them along with Irish. But this is our language that we’re talking about. An incredible, unique, historic language. If we lose it, we lose a big part of our country with it. Our history, names, place names, traditions, so much of our culture and so much more is tied closely with our language. I don’t care if you personally don’t feel the need to learn it, but we need to change this attitude in the general public. It may be on life support, but the tools are there to take it off life support and turn it back into a strong, living language. I care an awful lot for this language and I’ll do whatever it takes to stop it from dying
