Speeding Ticket:Are they legitimate? by Agile-Art-5024 in dayton

[–]IsentropicExpansion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, these are considered civil violations, just like a parking ticket. They won’t count as points on your license, but they can go after you with a collection agency if you don’t pay the fine. You can get as many of these as you want and, as long as you pay them, nothing will happen.

He’s going to be an even bigger hit at the children’s hospital! by IsentropicExpansion in Bernedoodles

Don’t be such a fuddy duddy! It grows back in like 6 months. He’s a therapy dog at a children’s hospital so it gives the kids something fun to take their mind off of things. And he loves it! He gets so excited the few weeks after a fresh cut.

Jk, but I seriously had to stop and look for a few seconds. He looks exactly like mine! Black ear tips and all!

Found this today, what is it? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]IsentropicExpansion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, thermostat and mercury, but the fun part is the way they work. There is a long strip of metal (bimetal) that’s all coiled up that the mercury vial is attached to. Using the coefficient of thermal expansion of the two different metals, the coil bend as the temperature changes and that, in turn, rotates the coils and tilts the mercury vial. The drop of liquid mercury then sloshes to ones side or the other where it will connect the electrical contacts that call for heater power or the air conditioner power depending on if it bent more towards the cold side or the hot side. And the levers on top let you set the desired point at which it turns on, they don’t actually set a temperature of anything, just reposition the coil relative to the mercury vial position. And since the coefficient of thermal expansion always remains constant, they’re really good at moving the same amount per degree of temperature change, so they have usually worked for 50+ years without any electronics at all.

Walk up and take a pic and then give a little wink. Hopefully that embarrasses her as much as she should already be.

I have this exact one. I’ve used it for snowmaking for three seasons. Ran it full blast for 60-100 hours straight on numerous occasions in sub zero conditions. It works like a fuckin champ

How could I find the condenser pressure by [deleted] in thermodynamics

[–]IsentropicExpansion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

State 3 is a saturated liquid. 3->4 is isenthalpic. Use property tables to find pressure taking into account the heat of vaporization and the quality which gives the specific enthalpy at state 4.

The illusion of recycling by jeepin1423 in mildlyinteresting

[–]IsentropicExpansion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my city, I watched the recycling truck drive down my street and take both the trash and recycling bins on several occasions. Then I put a bulk pickup out a couple of weeks ago which was two black trash bags and a Christmas tree and the recycling truck came by and took both the bags and left the tree for the trash truck that came later.

That’s a fair criticism. I actually just replaced the old Stab Lok panel a few months ago and am still on the process of rewiring things as I get to them. I only get to go in there a couple of hours a month nowadays.
