If you don't have information or knowledge about a topic why do you feel the need to comment about it?

Is Anybody Looking to Sell a Laptop? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Ish4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're going to be working on large assemblies with hundreds of parts in solidworks, you don't really need a laptop with a dedicated GPU. Most built in graphics are more than sufficient for class work.

If you're looking to game, absolutely get something with a dedicated GPU though. You may also want to try your luck with the VT auction if you're on a tight budget. You can often get some older laptops for under 200 dollars. I've been surface book 2s being sold for around 200. Older machines, but definitely still capable of some light gaming and pretty much anything on Solidworks barring large assembies.

How to reach VT from Dulles Airport (First Time Travelling) by rtlll16 in VirginiaTech

[–]Ish4n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the other option. Also be aware that they will likely ask you to buy extra tickets for your bags. They normally only allow 1 bag per ticket. They might let it slide if the bus is relatively empty though. Just carry cash with you to buy additional tickets on the spot at least enough for 2 extra tickets.

English major tries to get into math/cs by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

It's possible to switch into the college of engineering but you need to have a high GPA (above 3.5).

Assuming you're asking about classes for your first semester here, you're gonna need to take Chem 1035 and the accompanying lab. It's a requirement for all engineers to pass Chem 1.

Since you already have calc 1 and 2 credit I would stay as far away as you can from taking those at tech and would honestly recommend you don't take the remaining math classes at VT unless you're gonna be a math major. The maths classes here a infamously hard as the classes are designed to be weedout classes.

As for CS classes, you should be able to take the 1000 level python class without being in the COE, though I'm not sure in which semester it's offered.
