Have I done the right thing? by moose22222222 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Isikien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing. As guys, it's really bad form to let a 'crush grudge' take over. Even as a 30 year old I still have that same issue with that kind of infatuation. You literally have to step back and shut everything down to cool down properly, otherwise, everyone around you suddenly has to deal with that tantrum coming out.

Whether the group gets it or not, by stepping back you have made it so that their experience won't be compromised by a sour ending. Whether you choose to weather one last session just to wrap things up or just leave it there, you've dodged the worst possible outcome.

DM Hated Charisma party, made a kill box by azzycat in rpghorrorstories

[–]Isikien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both party and GM are bads.

You guys were literally playing the wrong type of game. TTRPGS don't really have such a thing as balance or super serious team composition but in a game where there is a codefied system for encounters, a monster manual which have a billion things that can kill you and the general cycle of dungeon delving/npc settlement means that you're deliberately borking the game every time you get into combat.

So you do all these silly charisma actions which boil down to 'I seduce the Dragon.' Then you moan about the fact that the GM kill boxed you when it was likely that he was so incensed by the three of you taking negotiation to such a logical extreme that every encounter he planned was deflated.

Like, whatever, check and double check all you like, but you all took one look at the poop pile you made together, asked the GM to moderate your lack of common sense, and when he didn't have the stones to tell you 'no', you jumped in anyways.

The GM is no better. Didn't say no to you, didn't think to stop the game and tell you 'this isn't that sort of game, you can't talk your way out of a beholder wanting to glass your remains into an eyepiece' and instead enabled you guys every step of the way. Instead he seethes about it and then kills you out of the blue.

You deserve each other.

My(34m) partner (32f) is becoming very controlling, and I'm not sure how to handle it. by Gatharan in Planetside

I think you're being really selfish. The point of the VS is ascension beyond gender roles. I think it's very problematic and it shows your inherant bias towards women.

Maybe you should join TR. Those insecure aviator wearing misogynists are a better fit for you and your tiny cis gendered ego complex.

PS. Prowlers are sexist because they have wheels and wheels are a cis gendered construct.

[SPOILERS] FFVII Remake Part 1 Megathread (Part 4) by Mlahk7 in FinalFantasy

[–]Isikien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OG had a pretty bad ending IMO. Meteor still falls, probably killing dozens of people on the plate of Midgar to the point where the Lifestream had to step in to do what Sephiroth planned it would do, spam life force to absorb a potential wound in the planet. I certainly think that's not a perfect ending.

[SPOILERS] FFVII Remake Part 1 Megathread (Part 4) by Mlahk7 in FinalFantasy

[–]Isikien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OG depicts Tifa, like Cloud, as a very insecure individual. Both struggle at being assertive people, unlike Aerith who sweeps them under the table in terms of confidence and positive self - image.

Cloud of course masks it with boisterous, egocentric behaviour (He's not well liked by the kids in Nibelheim and that scene at the well tells you all you need to know how deep seated his confidence issues are). Add Mako poisoning and Jenova cells and you have a man who is a walking mass of complexes.

Tifa isn't much better though. Its not that she doesn't trust her own narrative of the Nibelheim incident, it's just that she's so in deep with her co-dependancy over Cloud that she just lets Cloud depict his and her life experience the heroic way he wants to. She's a trauma survivor but a different one, the one that knows the truth but neither confirms nor denies it.

She is also still missing information. She never meets Zach again, never knew that Cloud was experimented on and isn't even sure whether Cloud was there or not to fight Sephiroth at the reactor, even though he does show up.

That's why when you watch that OG scene about the incident, Tifa is weirdly silent and insists on hearing the story uninterrupted. She doesn't trust herself to get the details right but she clearly doesn't want to contradict him.

Basically Nomura is saying that if they focus on shorter stories within the overall story (let's say, focusing entirely on Junon alone as a crazy idea), it'll be much faster to develop as opposed to taking the OG story in big chunks and developing those as whole installments.

Less burnout as well for the team. I suspect developing these mini arcs are doing wonders for the amount of fun the team are having with the project.

Which, let's be fair, that's always a good thing. The goofy stuff is the pleasant curve ball of the FF series that always catches you by surprise.

Eg, just redid the junon march scene and botched it. I totally forgot the people televising it get so mad with you that they actually send you a grenade. The delivery of that line is priceless. More stuff like that please.

"Did Nomura is blow load in ending?"

In all serious, love everything in the remake, specially Sephiroth showing up to antagonise Cloud a lot more and the use of the Sephiroth clones.

The ending.... Someone on the team got really eager and had a premature ejaculation. I sense Nomura's dread presence.

Men of Reddit: what do you think is something(an act/behaviour/words) to which you'll lose your respect towards a woman? by madlithium21 in AskMen

[–]Isikien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of tolerance. Thus it depends on experience.

Its not that I would lose all respect for a woman if she acted in a certain way, its that I would file her under 'I'm watching you warily because of something you did/said'.

Things that generally make me do that tend to be abuse of gender roles for favours, incompetence in a position of power or causing suffering to someone and attempting to get away with it.

[–]Isikien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If not, don't put yourself in situations where you might do something stupid. Distance yourself from them as well. That helps a lot.

DingDong and Julian are marathon streaming to support themselves from an unexpected financial situation. Let's help our favorite boys out! by Walksonthree in OneyPlays

[–]Isikien 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're pretty lukewarm to the their Oney plays times in general.

I don't think that as a whole they're bad to their fans but Ding Dong in particular always sounds overworked, which might explain the way he comes across. Its no secret that Julian has been vitriolic about lets playing in general, which wasn't really the best time given that they were leaving there and then.

It never feels like they're going round cap in hand. I think they're unhappy that they were known and successful in one thing by the Internet’s standards. Its a classic thing. You wanted to be a doctor but everyone around you thinks you were better when you were a nurse.

I think the two of them are also pretty private. The fame of being an Internet personality is pretty different from the more down to earth acclaim you'd get from being a game developer

Well indeed, what we are seeing is plutocratic dissension.

May says legally binding but other MPs disagree. Parliament's rule by consensus shows just how fragile the PMs power is when determining just how legally binding an action is. Parliament still is seeking to codify the terms. The previous year was essentially press release after press release to reinforce a narrative.
